He is a bit of a perfectionist so was really ****ed off haha.

I might be able to find a picture of her before, but likely not, she was nothing special.
The paint on it was about as bad as you can get. lots of clear coat cracking, a few dings, one door was sprayed right over the unprepped clear of a previous colour. Some clear was thick and hard some was thin and soft. It was a patchwork.
One door Required just going over it with 150 grit and the other required hours of work to take it right back, shape it a bit, repair.

We stripped it, sanded everything to a stage where the body was straightish and was all finnished with 180 grit.
Masked it
Prepsoled it (Product called prepsol, it softens the paint and cleans off dust etc)
Layer of primer
Lots of sanding wit 180 taking out any imprefections we found
Prepsoled it
Thick primer
Lots of sanding with 240ish
Remasked
Prepsoled
Colour
Tomorrow I will take back the watermarks etc and have a go at spraying the topcoat, i'll have a professional painter watching over me hopfully.
Sounds like what I did, Sanded imperfections with 180, then 320 to smooth it out and then 600 to leave it realy smooth, and tomorrow I'm going to give it the one coat it needs and saturday paint, HOPEFULLY....

600 if you want
But doing it even with 180 grit left no scratchmarks, just depends how thin the paint Is I guess

Now you get to pick the final colour

Are you going to clear it? I cleared my paint on my mkII and it makes a big difference if you can do it right. Getting the paint on the edge of dribbling is where you need to be to get a nice shine without heaps of clear to make it deep/shiny.

Awesome, she is looking good
Make sure you wipe her down REALLY well with something like womans stockings, something fine that will pick up dust but wont leave anything behind.

I have about 20 packs of womans stockings in my garage still in pack that my mum brought for 70cents then decided she didn't like them. I use them to strain paint, wipe paint and do just about everything paint related, they are a handy tool.

Hell yeah they are, I did all the work in Matangi, so a lil bit country, and going across the road and buying stockings in a rural town isnt a good look. The lady looked me straight in the eye and said "I know what your doing with these" after and awkward silence she added " I know your not going to wear them"
We did try use 'cheese cloth' to strain and wipe down but it leaves all sorts of ****.
100% cotton Handkerchiefs arnt bad either.

The woman shouldn't have said anything it would have been funnier I am trying to decide if I paint my mkI racecar that I am prepping to manz spec. It looks like a dumb blond with the headlights up and a missing front lip and not in a good way

Sweet well if its after the holidays and you need a hand shout out, someone helped me so I need to pass it on.
Also to keep the thread on topic. Unless you are 100% sure that the body is perfect, dont paint it black cause it shows up everything like dogs balls. MK1's look bad ass red with Black highlights tho.

+1 gloss black is really bad for showing stuff up. White and silver need huge dings to actually show. I *heart* dark blue like my mkI it is an awesome colour. And I also like purples not gay light purples, dark and bluey purples. Black and red are also cool colours. VW actually makes some of favourite colours normally pearly whites with a blue tinge and stuff like that they look awesome.

Thanks, I was thinking of passing the 1500 sand sheet to get all the dust left behind, or just giving it a good wash

I wouldnt wash it, then it could have all sorts of other residue.
Meths and stocking. Or something that will evaporate and not leave any residue behind and something that will wipe away all of the dust

^ I had to do another coat of paint because of some water spots and lots of dust and stuff.
I blew all the dust out from under the car etc and waited for it to settle, then blow all the dust from around the door sills etc. Then blow the dust off from roof down, let it settle then clean it down with meths, then a final wipe down.

if you visit your local paint store they should have something called a "Tack Cloth"
its a fiber like rag with a bit of stick-em and will pick up allot more of the dust/contaminants left on the primer.
