Question cant get lower control arm bolt out ..ahhhhh

ive spent hours putting in these poly bushings and i cant get the driver side lower control arm bolt off in the front ..

if i put a impact wrench on there the socket just spins around .. but when i use a wrench it wont budge ...

any suggestions ..

i think the head is halfway stripped ..

would a oxyacetylene torch help any ..

any suggestions / ways to get this bolt out will help greatly ..

the rear wheels used to wobble and now there nice and tight .. i put all new poly bushings, bolts, ball joints, and them rear tie rods off of twosrus.com, and cleaned and painted everything ..

just gotta get the fronts done and i should have a pretty stiff go car .. i mean mr2 .. lol

thanks ,

Adrian

try beating the threaded end of the bolt with a wrench. Sort of tap-tap, not TO hard. if that don't work, maybe tap-tap while slowly applying the air wrench. also wriggle the control arm, and it might help to take the strut rod off first and undo the bolts holding the ball joint onto the brake assembly (leave ball joint attatched to control arm). I would wager it's just got force applied in some direction that is pressing the bolt tight agaist the walls. If the arm is loose and not attatched to anything else it should be easier.

yea its loose .. ill probably have to take an oxyacetylene torch to the nut that is welded up in the frame . b/c nobody has ever messed with this mr2 .. and almost all the bolts are rusted in place .. got about 98% of the bolts free and either cleaned up with a wire brush or replaced ..this is one of the last ones .. then ill have a really nice and tight suspension with the poly bushings .. and itll be clean .. .. im looking forward to driving it now .. ive had this car over 6 months and ive driven it 14 miles on one motor (blew hg) .. and now i just rebuilt the original 4agze and waiting to drive it once the suspension is done ..

well, if it rotates freely with the impact wrench, I figure you can still get it spinning and whack it out. That's what I had to do to coax mine out (though admittedly I didn't do it while they were spinning- ain't got no impact wrenches!)

the bolt isnt spinning .. its the socket spinning on the head of the bolt .. i think half of the bolt is stripped .. so i was thinking of welding a new head on top of it then taking a bigger impact wrench to it (friends dad used to be a diesel mechanic ..)

ah. Well, if you're not already using a 6-point socket I highly recommend trying one! Solved all my bolt-head-stripping problems
