Swap to MK2 turbo hubs and brakes. Going 5 lug is also a bonus.

Please excuse my ignorance as I am very new to these cars. What is the difference between the 86 and 87 brakes?

87 rotors and calipers are somewhat bigger.

Well I have an 86 MK1 and Im doing an overhaul on it. I dont need rediculously good brakes, but I do drive the **** out of my car and race through the canyons every weekend. I would love to have 4k to drop on it...but...well I dont. I do have money and Im not trying to go overkill. Any recommendations?

Celica GTS or GT4 brakes. The single pot ones.. 278 mm discs. Calipers are direct fit, discs need to be redrilled. For the rest its all plug and play.
Or your could upgrade to MK1B brakes, stainless steel brake lines ( get these anyway ), and some good brake fluid. I use DOT 5.1 and the MK1B brakes with refurbed calipers, stock discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads. The pads are about the same as the Porterfield R4S. This is a great setup for the track days I go to. |
