+40 on 8" should work all around but it won't look so good, maybe +20 for the rear 16s and you'll have a bit of poke or add a 5mm to 8mm spacer to the +40 rears.

Don't you like staggered wheels/tires? The car shipped that way, you're 'un-MR2ing' it.

My Google Map

215 on 8 inches seems a bit small. You can either use larger rubber or smaller wheels.

On an mk1? We had 14's stock. Stick with 14's or 15's they look like they are supposed to be on the car. I had 16's on my car and they were too big. I dont know the offset but they had 40 profile tires and they allmost hit the suspension. Do yourself a favor and buy a rim that you can run some rubber on.

Oh sorry, got mixed up with an MKII.

195/50-15 all around is quite possibly the best combo for an MK1, one of the best compromises between looks, great handling, ride comfort and snappy turn-in. 205s are also good, the next best thing.

If you have stiff suspension than +20 will work, otherwise you may have fender rubbing issues using a 7.5" and 205s.
