n00b here
Hey guys,
My name is Mike. I am the new owner of a '91 MR2 Turbo that I picked up from a member of this forum named Phryx. I was originally a 240sx owner, but fell in love with the MR2 after my friend Russ (Tearstone on these boards) got one. Pretty much ever since then I have been looking for one. I picked up my MR2 last Monday after meeting Phryx in Tallahassee. I have been trolling these boards here for about a month now, so I figured now would be the time to post up...lol. Here are some pics I took yesterday after cleaning up the Deuce: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The major problem with this car is that the turbo is seized up. I am somewhat torn on whether I should just replace it with another ct26 or get something better, like a ct20b, or an all out turbo kit. Any suggestions you guys have, I am all ears. My other car is a 2000 Eclipse GT Turbo that has consumed the better part of the last 4 years of my life. I have had great success with that car, from setting record 1/4 mile times for the platform to having a full 4 page feature in Sport Compact Car magazine. Now, I am looking to move on to another platform and have some more fun. I really dig my MR2 and hope to gain some more experience in working with this car ![]() |

I just want it to boost right for now...lol. Im pretty content with everything else, save the shift knob and tint-less windows. I really just want to go fast in it though

Welcome to the Board!
![]() I bet if you put the time and money into your MR2 as you did with your eclipse you will have a beautiful car! As far as the turbo, what are you looking to do with the car? If you look in the MK2 section, there is a stickied thread on different turbo kits for the mk2 that you might find as an interesting read. |

Right now I just want something a tad better than stock, which is why I as leaning towards a ct20b. I have some other things I need to touch up on the car before I try and get a good amount of horsepower out of it. From what I gather, to do a ct20b, all I ned is the turbo and downpipe, correct? Its a pretty much direct replacement besdies the downpipe? |

Welcome to the boards. I've been talking to Russ on here a lot. Hopefully he's going to help me with my swap when I find a shell.
Ct20b is a good choice. It will easily see 300whp with mods. That's what I have on my car, which came stock on my Gen3. I beat my friend's c5 vette until 75mph, then the power really shows, and he pulls away... But I'm not running stock boost, acually lower than stock boost, and still putting down at least 200hp. The turbo has a nice even pull, and the power comes on predictably (read: not a kick in the pants all at once). The car might feel slower because the boost doesn't hit you like a hammer, but it will be faster and more predictable. I'm pretty sure you can just switch out the turbo and DP, you might not even have to do the DP. Edit: oh, and you might want to look into fuel pump, injectors etc. Depending on how much of the ct20b you want to be using. With that turbo, you can hit the limits of the stock fuel system quickly from my understanding. |
