Injectors - Stock 440's, ~270whp on pump gas. Gen3 540's, ~340whp on pump gas Fuel pump - gen2, ~290-320whp Fuel Rail - Gen2, they need to be changed alongside your new fuel pump, uneven flow distribution occurs if not. Pistons: Some say 400+whp, i say, go ahead and change them at around 360-370whp, why risk anything? Headgasket: Next weakest link next to the pistons...get a MHG when you do the machine work for forged pistons Tranny - 91/91 has a tendency to grind in some gears. 93+ MUCH better shifting tranny, but both have held up to 500+whp cars, 2 step drag launches, etc Axles - very beefy and can withstand a lot as well, however the cages are weak after ~300whp, ATS's chrom moly cages are in order. And i agree, i think the sw20 has timeless styling, much better in appearance than a scooby |

You know what though: I talk a lot of smack about the N/A but it really is a decent car for just cruising around with. I wouldn't count on it to do any serious racing (and keep in mind were talking about the 5S-FE, not the JSpec N/As, cuz those are badass) and I wouldn't spend a dollar modding it... but if you just want a reliable car that you can drive every day and hit the twisties when it's nice out it really does the job pretty well.
Anywho, back on topic: Zapper made a good point when he said "the MR2 and the WRX are different beasts" (or something like that =P ). They really are two different beasts. For any kind of dirt racing I would definately take the WRX. That's not to say a deuce can't rally cuz it has been proven that it can. And for any kind of track (or the 's' word) racing I would definately take the MR2. You are just plain better off with MR than FA (I think just made that term "FA" up... I mean Front-engine AWD) for track racing or drag racing. And that's not to say a WRX cant run on a track against MRs cuz that has been well proven. But if you're looking for an ideal choice for a track car, I would say the deuce. |

As for the starter of this thread. Yes, get an MR2. I can't really think of a better platform to build a race car from. No matter what you do to any other car it will *never* handle as well as a mid engine (of equivelant weight) on a smooth dry road such as a race track. |

My opinon on the handling of an MKII may be a little skewed because my car is a widebody and has a 2 1/2" wider rear base but my 2 is by far the best, most fun car that I have ever driven. Cars that I can compare it against are the Saturn Sky, Honda s2000, BMW 645 and m3, Ford mustang (god it was horrible), Acura Integra, cars like that. The s2k and the sky are the only ones that come close. All of them had their flaws, wheras the MR2 just feels perfect, minus the fact that my car has no power steering so if yiu hit a bump mid turn, hopefully you're holding the wheel tight. That, to me is a good thing though. I have never encountered the 'snap oversteer' that people say flaws the 91/92's but it definately has that 'point-and-shoot' feel to it. The car goes exactly where you want it to go and has no understeer feel whatsoever. I love it. I wish I had driven a WRX so I could compare them but you cant go wrong with the MR2

go for it
I still have my 04 wrx (which is for sale by the way) and a 91 n/a mr. I can definately say that the wrx and the 2 both are fun to drive cars. I do agree with you that it does get old having mad grip with the awd, and that is the main reason i sprung ror the mr2. Although the n/a is not as powerful as the scooby, all the power you need is just a swap away. Good luck and enjoy.
