Thumbs up New member old car.

Well I'm not sure, but I just may be the most northern MR2 owner here, Located in Northern Alberta, Canada.
I picked up my 85 mk1 in sept, drove her till snow fall and now I'm doing a stock rebuild (besides the top end) 4AGE. I've been looking through this forum from day one and finally became a member. I'm an Electrian by trade and work at the worlds largest oil sands plant in the world. Looking forward to racking your brains.

Well I might as well start by asking what is the difference between the duration #'s (256, 264, 272) on a camshaft, and what would you recommend. Reason I ask is I'm going to replace my stock cams because their worn.

I personally think that 256, 264, and 272 degree cams differ because they make the pistons and rods go up and down for a longer distance. 256 being the shortest and 272 being the longest. I have HKS 264 Degree tilt in my 3SGTE (turbo motor from the SW20) and those can hold up to 900hp. I dont really know about N/A. Now if any of this info is incorrect, please inform me but for the most part, I believe that I'm correct.

Where in Northern Alberta are you ? I'm in Prince George, which I guess isn't a whole lot further north than Edmonton. My girlfriend grew up in the Whitecourt area. I'm assuming you're in the Ft. Mac region... born and raised or a recent job chaser ?

Welcome Pin your location on the Google Map

they don't make the pistons and rods go up and down farther, duration is how long the valve is open.

So it's how long the valve is open for. (as in time). So any idea which set I should pick up. I'm only running a stock lower end 4AGE, stock exhaust but I may change the intake once I get the engine back in and running correctly.
