if im lucky haha.
my names nick, first post here. my friend will directed me to a local napa something or other garage a mile or two away, where they have a red 1994 MR2 sitting in the lot. something tells me that ive seen it before, and he says its been sitting for a year or so, so thats probably why. but yeah, T-tops, a little snow on it (figured itd snow the day i saw it), this weird scoop thing above and behind the drivers side door for the engine, and will said it had a turbo kit (dunno if its stock or not, im going towards no) and a short throw shifter, possibly some other stuff. he says theyd sell it, or are going to sell it, for $3k at most. now heres the problem. i went in today after school, and the guy was kind of an ass about it, and brushed me off as an 18 year old who was just looking at fast cars and didnt have the intent to purchase. well, what i got out of him was that the guy who actually owns it couldnt pay his dues, and the title is being transferred over to the garage in place of the payments. unfortunately, theres already a person or two who want to be notified about the car when they have any news on it...*crosses fingers*. id LOVE this car, but im just not sure how long this car has until i could be able to buy it, how long that title process takes, if he would really sell it for $3k (its like, perfect condition. the dual exhaust barely has any rust on it, it looks a little faded....and will said the engine is almost mint). i live in Syracuse, NY, so there arent many nice tuner cars up here, and waaaay too many civics for my liking. so a MR2 would be a wonderful car for me, id thoroughly enjoy it. im just worried about it taking too long, or losing it to someone else....or some other crazy reason. thanks for any info...or whatever haha ![]() |

That's a sick deal if you can get it for that. I'd buy it right now for 3k, not even seeing it.

might as well post here, just as an output for my obsession haha. could barely concentrate on my AP spanish final today -.-
well anyways, i called the place a day or two ago and got another mechanic. after initial information, he quoted about a $10k price tag on how much the owner put into the engine...so whether hes right or not, its still an insane amount of work. unfortunately, he said that it most likely will go to an auction because thats what they do with mechanical work (or something...i didnt quite understand why it would go to an auction). some questions, because i cant rationalize any answers: would it go to an auction? would they remove all the previous work they have done on the car that hasnt been paid for, then send it to the auction? im like driving by the bodyshop like three times a week just to see the car haha, god itd be great to get. what can be done to the engine that would total 10 grand anyways? i know theres an aftermarket turbo and a short throw shifter on there, but thats it as far as i know. |

It may go to an auction through a baliff if the guy you're talking to doesn't actually own the car, but has just placed a lein against it for work that was completed, and not paid for. They likely wouldn't remove the parts, because they then wouldn't get paid the labour.
Hard to say how they could spend 10 grand on the car without you knowing a little more info about it ![]() |

im pretty sure a lien was placed against it. not sure how expensive an auction would be for me though, or if its a dealers only auction (i know a dealer though, thankfully).
