MR2 or bust... welcome the newbie If you'd plz.
So Pretty much im 17 and i just bought my first car which is prolly the sickest first car you can get. A 1994 aquamarine n/a mkII mr2. 118,000 and it runs freaking amazing. Before i go into how much this car kicks ill tell you a lil about myself. I was born and raised in Southern California, yorba linda its in Orange county. At the age of 16 my parents up and decide to move to Northern Cali so here i am. Id been driving my dads 2001 mustang gt and it was a lil to much for me buh i had a lot of fun in. Round a week ago i found a guy selling an Mr2 for 4.5k went down there had a look at it drove it around, took it to a mechanic and got it smogged. The car runs pretty much amazing, compression was next to perfect and everything about the car runs tight and smooth. Where it lacks in power it more than makes up in breakneck cornering, awsome braking, and just a fun adrenline packed drive. The feeling you get when get into the cockpit, turn the key, and listen to the purr and rumble of 2.2 liters of japanese fury beating behind your head is step away from an automotive nirvana. The car However Is not 100 percent perfect. It has been involved in 2 accidents and both the front fenders need to be replaced. The paint is fading on the top of the engine and hood and could use a fresh coat all over. Interior is nice tho the drivers seat is torn and cracked. The wheels are also a bit oversized and redicoulous imo. There 18 mazzi rims and kind of look funny so im prrly gunna switch them out for some 5 zigens' axis, or some volk rims. Ive pushed the car to its limits and its payed me back when red faced sweaty palmed driving experiances that would rival the racers of lemans. I love this car and would like to be apart of the MR2 community im looking forward to both fixing and improving this already amazing car of the 90's. Thanks for reading and peace out ![]() P.S. if any of you know where i can get a hold of fenders, or anything else i can do cheaply and easily to the car for a bit of extra power feel free to chime in. Welcome. Wheels are not my cup of coffee...glad they don't seem to be yours either, lol.
As far as performance upgrades go: Power Primer Find someone parting out their car and try to snag a couple fenders. |

Yea they dont fit the car at all. i dont know what the person before me was thinking. before i rolled the fenders they were scraping so bad the car was barely drivable. Luckily the wheels and rims are new about 100 miles on em so im looking to sell em they retail for 1700 all together... Once again i dont know what that guy was thinking hahaha

Hey man, welcome to the boards. Love the car, but I agree on those wheels, and those NO profile tires. Seems more like a thin coat of rubber on them rather then tires.
As far as fenders go, just like Sang said, just find someone parting out a car, although you may have to paint them since I rarely see a deuce in that color. And performance, go with the basics for now, header, induction and muffler. That's about as cheap and as basic as it could get for added power. Anything above that will involve engine mods, turbo or juice. Good luck with the car and feel free to ask questions, everyone on here seems to be happy to help where they can. |

Yea im looking to sell the rims on like craigs list of something. If anyone wants them p.m me there brand spanking new buh there just not my style at all. Is it just me or are the seats a lil idk how to put it... a lil bit uncomfortable. maybe its cuz mine are a lik to broken in, buh i think if i were to change anythin interior wise i would go with new seats im like 6'1 and my back after driving in it usually is aching a bit so maybe ill just have to adjust them more.. buh i am interested in more comfortable supportive racing seats. What are some buckets out there.. nothing super crazy....

Awesome buy! '94's are hard to come buy. You might want to save up more money to buy new rims.
That's when you have it, right now, its not a problem.http://www.mr2board.com/forums/mk-2-parts-fs/ Your best bet on the fenders. Unless you hit up a junk yard. PS. You look really disgusted in that picture if that's you. ![]() |

Cool, good deal on the car. It had been for sale for quite some time now and I'm certain the wheels are why it didn't sell, so they did help you get a good deal on the car. The wheels probably lowered the value at least $2000 over what you would have paid for it with stock wheels, even with the fender damage. You should be able to get some stock wheels for $300-400. By the way, the color is Dark Emerald Green (paint code 6M1) and was only available in 94-95. That said, because of the rarity of 94-95 MR2s, you will be hard pressed to find used fenders that match color. I'd say save your cash and just plan on having a set painted when you get them. Congrats on the purchase.

Congrats on the purchase, a few tips...
I don't know if this is your first rear engine car but I am guessing it is. Learn the car on a track before you start pushing it on the street, sounds like you already have been and may be setting yourself or others up for disaster. Get the car fully restored back to OEM condition, it's a 94 and it's worth doing that. You can find a set of stock 93+ wheels for around $300 and less if you want to refinish them. Welcome to the board. ![]()

im Familar with Rearwheel drive cars. As far as the weight distribution, balance, and handling the oversteer on the car ive got it down for the most part. Taking it to a track is already in the works. As for the wheels im throwing them up on craigslist tomarrow. However the wheels arent at the top of priorities it seems the cars door lining is leaking, so i guess ima have to remove the weather stripping or something and replace it. And i didnt realize the 94 was a rare year....
Thanks for making me feel welcome everyone, and in that picture as i remember now i was biting my lip in an effort to try n seduce the internet public it looks like.... or i just was putting on a stupid face one of the two...hahaha |

Nice find on the 94. Definately get those wheels changed asap. Its no so much the fact that the car is rear wheel drive as it is that the engine is in the back that you need to get familiar with, but ya a run to infineon or laguna seca would go a ways. im 17 too and have yet to so much as hit it with a shopping cart
Just take your time and don't go attack some canyon after you just bought the car and you'll be fine. Are you planning on going to the norcal meet in july? |

To Rush.. i hate the rims buh before i can change those outs i need to fix the body damage. Sadly ive ran a couple esitmates with some body shops round here and there all upwards of 4k.... mostly because on the drivers side door there is a small dent on the A pillar so the door doesnt fit 100 percent. It causes air noise at high speed and there are leaks. Im pissed whoever owned this car before me kept it in piss poor shape. Im not gunna lie i have been "attacking" the local canyon called marsh Creek road. Buh i Havent pushed it beyond my control. Im learning pretty fast what this car can and cant do. What is this norcal meet? Ive only seen one other mr2 mk2 in my life in person.

I was Focused on the rims at first buh now i have bigger fish to fry when it comes to this car. The body work for starters. Then rims and tires. Then the interior. Its already such a cool car, i just wanna restore it to its former glory. I love it tho cuz it performs perfectly in every way except for the wheel balance and alignment thanks to the god awful rims... buh like i said there the next step after the repairs and matinence. And thank you to everyone for accepting me into the Mr2 family im glad to be apart of it and as long as you dont get drunk on thanksgiving and try n have your way with me, ill be in the family for years and years to come. hahaha

All my money has been going into the car mechanically so outside is not so hot. I looks good but if you really were to see it in person real up close the paint has half a million imperfections and scratches and bubbles and drips and everything you could think of.Thats exactly what I mean about canyons. Attack away, thats I learned how to drive my car, just don't push it further than you know, and be careful with it. Just be smart and respect the car and you will be happy. Its nice to see someone bringing back another mr2. Mine is salvaged title so I spent almost a year just getting to drive semi-right, so I feel your pain about fixing other peoples mistakes. It makes it worth it in the end though to own a car that you are proud of. The mr2 meet is july 1st at Vasona county park its like $10 hope to see you there it should be fun, or at least i hope it will be im gonna be driving like 4 1/2 hours to get there. Link http://www.mr2board.com/forums/norca...st-2007-a.html Thanks for the comment by the way and good luck with your mr2Edit: oh and be sure to make your member garage and mark your location on the map. |

Another piece of advice Id say for you is, if youre looking to become a TOTAL enthusiast with the car, and mod the thing to hell and back (you know, turbo swap, or whatever else for performance), Id fix yours, get it to STOCK spec, keep it for a daily driver and get ANOTHER one and mod it, or sell yours unmolested for a good price (94s, even NAs fetch a pretty good price, and dont listen to what the guides say, market dictates the prices on these things) and buy a 93 turbo or something that is closer to your goal.
Being an enthusiast, Id rather see a perfectly unmolested 94, stay unmolested, and see a less rare 93 or 91/92 turned into a speed demon. Just my .02 Welcome to the board. And of course you could always just be happy with what you got, and fix it back to total stock spec and keep it. ![]() |
