another newbie
Hello fellow MR2 enthusiasts. I'm new to this forum, but have had my '86 MR2 for a year and a half now. I love this car! It is driving me crazy though because it overheats. I have had the radiator and water pump replaced and the hoses cleaned out and some of them replaced, but it still overheats. Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks, Marie |

Does it smoke? If not I'd agree with Shimri and say it's the thermostat.
Welcome! |

Thanks guys! I know for a fact it's not the thermostat. We took that part out! LOL It has a new radiator and water pump and some of the hoses have been replaced. The radiator overflow bottle has a cracked cap. I notice it seems to have air in the cooling system, even though we bleed the air out. Could it be sucking air into the cooling system through the cracked overflow bottle cap? I have read that if it gets air in the system it will overheat. I love this car and I can't wait to get it fixed! I am so glad to find a forum of people who understand the love of the MR2!

I've never heard of that causing an MR2 to overheat.
Do a coolant system pressure check and a compression test and let us know what the result are. Also, if it's smoking white smoke that smells sweet, then the headgasket is blown. Otherwise get back to us with the results of the test. |

Thanks! That's great! Now that I know what to ask for, I'm sure I can get it fixed. I will report back as soon as I get the tests done. Thanks again!
