New here.
I just bought a 92' MR-2. The motor is a 3S-GE. I paid 100 bucks, for pretty much just the body. The guy said the water pump went and it was all down hill from there.
I am pulling the motor this coming weekend. Before I decide wether to rebuild the engine or swap in a in motor I have a few questions. Exactly how hard is it to swap a 3S-GTE motor into it? If it's not to difficult I found a JDM 3S-GTE from osakajdmmotors.com. Should it be put in professionaly or should I just swap/rebuild 3S-GE and wait to swap the 3S-GTE? Sorry if this seems like alot of questions but out of all the fourms I tried the people seem the most frendly and knowledgeable here. |

Welcome to the board. Sounds like you got a good deal on the car! Post up some pictures. As far as the 3SGTE you should have a full rear clip so you have everything. Otherwise some of the turbo guys should be able to chime in and tell you what you need.

Congrats. $100 for a rolling chassis is a sweet deal, sounds like you basically got it for free
![]() Assuming the 3SGE is the stock motor for that car and you're overseas, find someone that sells a clip as ^ mentioned. Buying an engine set and getting all the tid bits will nickel and dime you to death and will make the install take MUCH longer than anticipated because you'll be constantly running in situations where you find that you don't have a particular part and you'd need to order it. People try to catch it all before they start the install, but...most of it comes up while in the midst of doing it all and you get to installing it...only to find that you're missing it. Good luck with whatever you choose though. |
