2nd check-in, just bought the MR2!

I just bought my first MR2!

I first checked in on mr2board back on May 12, after I had started my search for an MR2. I learned a lot from this board, and eventually found a black 1995 turbo, in fact it was also posted on this forum:

http://www.mr2board.com/forums/mk-2-...urbo-sale.html

I had a pre-purchase inspection done, and asked them to specifically check for rust and also check the engine, including a compression test. They didn't see any rust, and the compression was good at about 160psi on each cylinder. There were a few maintenance issues that I'll have to deal with, a wheel bearing, brake judder, small oil leak, needs new battery, etc. The car's interior and exterior is in great shape, and the engine seems strong.

I flew up to Milwaukee to physically purchase the car, and got on the road back to Austin, TX at about 2:30pm on Sunday. I passed six flags in illinois, and then passed it again in missouri. I got pulled over for speeding in St. Louis, but luckily the cop just gave me a warning. He said he clocked me at 80, and I thought I was going 75 at the most. Then I compared the car's speedometer to my GPS speedometer, and the car's speedo reads 5mph slower than I'm actually going (at about 70). The good part is, I had the hiccups that I couldn't get rid of, but getting pulled over for speeding scared them away for good.

In Oklahoma, I filled up gas twice, and neither gas station had 93 octane... wtf this ain't california!

Slept in Tulsa for 5 hours (in the car.. not too comfortable), hit the road, and ended up back in Austin at about 2:30, 24 hours after I had left Milwaukee. I stopped at a weigh scale just before Austin and got the weight of the car (2920 lbs, see the full thread).

The car did great... but I did notice the brake judder and heard a noise that I'm guessing could be the wheel bearing (or something else, but not the engine). I didn't push the car too much in corners yet, but the suspension and handling felt good so far. The car almost "wants" to turn, as if when you turn the wheel, you're letting it turn, not making it turn. It was a bit bouncy; the struts probably need to be replaced, I'm pretty sure they're the originals (with 113K miles on them).

So I have a long list of things to start fixing and checking on the car.. first I plan to get it all up to an "everything-working-right" state. Then I may get some better wheels for it, and bring it out to the track one weekend.

Some photos from the trip:

Just took possession of the car next to Milwaukee airport:

Midnight gas stop in Oklahoma (notice no 93 octane!)

Back home, next to my jealous del Sol beater:

Here are a few pics of my 94. Just thought you might want to use for comparison and see what the rev6 headlights look like.
