Cool new car and newbie

HEY MY PEEPS, whats going down? . Anyhow, I used to be a civic HB junkie, but now i have found my new love, this MR2, its a work in progress but everthing seems solid . I need some help this basic engine know how, and I am taking about from the base up . but first thing first, my ac make this horrbile screeching sound when i turn it on and it doesn't even crank out cold air, and here in south TX, i need ac. so anyone out there that can help me, that'd be awesome and if you're in SAytown, thats even better, I don't think there's any MR2 club down here yet so maybe we can get 2gether and get it going. chaos for now.

I lost my werd-to-english dictionary BUT the screeching sound you here is likely your AC belt. It is either bad or simply needs tightening. If its been screeching bad for a while then you will need a new belt for sure as the old one will be fried.

The adjuster for the AC belt is on the passenger side, up top near the Intercooler. Loosen the 14mm(I think) bolt on the side of the pulley (tight fit) and simply use the adjuster bolt to tighten it. Then snug down the bolt on the pulley.

It's possible that the AC compressor is forze up, this is less likely though.

To get off the AC belt you will need to remove the Alternator belt, IIRC.

Welcome to the boards!

thanks guys, i will try what you guys suggested. and another question: when i shift gear and the RPM drop to below 1000, the car shutter and died, it will start up right away but the same thing almost always happened if the RPM is below 1000
