What's up "people." (Have to be pollitically correct these days right?) I just purchased my 91' non-turbo from a friend who's owned it since 12,000 miles. I don't belive the car has ever seen the red line...at least while he owned it. I had to do some preventive maintence that was never done, but for $2,500 you can't complain. I am posting pics of the EBC slotted rotors I installed because it need new rotors. That rotors and EBC green stuff pads made a great change. I installed a Exody Stage 1 clutch and all is now well with the car. New valve cover, NGK Iridum plus, NGK wires, water pump, and all Gatorback belts as well as a new water pump while replacing the timing belt. The biggest change however came in the JSpec short shifter. Best $38 I ever spent on a car. Smooth quick shifts and a nice shifter handle included. (Look on e-bay..it's the only one with the handle included) Other than the Momo shift boot that is about all that has been done so far. I can't wait to sink $5-10,000 into the motor in the next year.

Sorry fellas it's been busy around here. I appologize. I will be posting those pics tomorrow as the wifey has the camera at work showing of pictures from all these fricking weddings i've had to go to lately.
V-6 sounds nice. I was talking with a friend in Winston-Salem who's friend had it done. What's the weight difference though? I am a 0-60 guy so the extra weight in the rear around the corners doesn't really bother me, but I was just curious. I know that land speed record was set with a honed out 2.0 liter turbo/supercharger combo...but that all top end. I have returned...lets all throw a party...it's so nice to feel welcome. |

So true. "This is not the place to come to if you are worried about being politically correct. Good luck with the project" So true. "this only got a little off the subject" and... So true! Pretty much anything I could add to this thread has already been said =P Well, welcome to the board =) |

v6 weight is just about the same as a 3sgte.
you'd appreciate the added torque 0-60. |

An aluminum V6 MR2 is actually lighter than a Turbo MR2. 0-60 on my car is about 6.0 sec, maybe faster. If you want 1/4 mile speed, go turbo. If you want an MR2 with near instant throttle response, go V6 N/A. You can also supercharge a 1MZ V6, but you lose a little response time with the gain (about 50-60 HP). |

I managed a 14.8 on my 1mzfe but thats with a 2" exhaust and cat as well as lack of drag experince. I think with a better exhaust (plan is to run side pipes) and better 60's I could hit mid 14's or below.
I can tell you though that the V6 is a blast to drive. I had a chance to drag my buddies stock turbo as well as having him drag it and every time I got him off the line to about the end of the track. the turbos have better top end/ higher mph than mine did but 6 of 6 runs I won and thats stock 1mz vs stock turbo. On something like auto cross or twisty roads I'd argue that their is none better than it. then again I've yet to really drive a turbo with the same suspention mods/setup I have but I'm sure that it would still come ahead given if the only differance was a stock turbo and a stock v6. the 3 big down falls I see for the v6 vs the turbo is 1; support for the 1mz is no where near as good as a 3sgte, yes you can super charge it but $ per HP goes to the turbo in my book 2; instillation and getting their, it's no 3sgte. although things fit for the most part it isnt as "plug and play" as a 3sgte swap is. you have to hunt for parts and fittings and such. if your new to the game and dont know much about working on cars it's going to be a challange. Wireing isnt easy if you dont know what your doing. 3; cost I managed to put in more than a 3sgte swap would be. Prices always very depending on how thriftey you are. Mine was missing some parts and although I was able to get toyota stuff at cost it was still a lot. Some people just buy a engine and slap it in other rebuild them, depending on how far you get into it that will add up on either. all in all though I'm happy with the swap, yes it cost more than I expected but it's a nice feeling knowing that your one of less than 10 or 15 in the world who has a V6 in their MR2. |
