How you doin'?
I'm currently a former 1985 MkI owner. It has been the coolest car I've owned; my current 1994 BMW 740i comes in second. Unfortunately, the upper mid-west climate took it's toll on my electric blue MR-2, & it began to resemble a piece of swiss cheese
![]() I've obsessed about MR-2s since 1988. I finally bought my 1985 model in 1992. I had Eibach lowering springs & KYB struts, though it was low on power, I loved the way it handled. Owning a car that rewards driving skill & technique was truly an awesome experience, but I sold it in 1996. I now find myself in a position of needing a runabout in Cincinnati, & I am truly ecstatic that an MR-2 will finally fit back into my life! I am weighing my options now... MkI or MkII, Turbo, Mk1.5, or V6... which is why I signed up now, before my purchase. I'll be picking your collective brain for info! ![]() Dennis |

I prefer the interior & light weight of the MkI, but the exterior & power of the MkII. If I go MkI, I will do the 3s-gte conversion. If I go MkII, I'll opt for a 91 or 92 for handling charicteristics. I want A/C, an LSD, and eventually 275-300 hp to the wheels with a nice high & flat torque curve. anything else is window dressing & subject to removal.
The only real reservation I have over the MkI is corrosion & a really short wheel base. If I do go with the MkII, I may consider the V6 conversion... in which case, I want to know if the 1gr-fe is a possibility. ![]() I love cylinders ![]() |
