Coming back for the 2
Well, my name is Jon and I haven't been on the forums in awhile but now that I'm in the market looking for car, why not return to an MR2?
I use to drive a 92 Civic hatch until I started messing around with it. Long story short: it won't run. Now I'm looking for a 2 to replace it. I'm confused right now on my options. I was wondering if any of yall can lend a hand. Budget is $~2500 to $3000 (actually only have 2500 in hand). Preferences are: MK II, T-Top, 5-spd. I have 2 choices: There's a white MR2 that's beautiful in my eyes, sunroof, and it isn't too far of a drive (Atlanta). But the worst part is it's automatic. The second choice is a black MR2, T-Top, 5-spd, but it's in Florida. Plus, it's REALLY hard to get in contact with the seller. Both within my budget. On impulse, I'd normally go with the white one and do a conversion way later on in life. But the MR2 is precious to me; special. I want to make sure this will last. But I'm also not driving anything right now. What should I do? |

What skills?

I think I've seen the black one on MR2 Trader, and honestly, it is an incredible price. I would personally try as hard as possible to get that before someone else does, because I know that if I lived anywhere near that thing I'd be on it in an instant. That car is easily worth twice what he's asking.

Actually, I'm going to wait it out. Maybe another week. Someone told me about a red turbo for $3000. Rebuilt engine and such. Straight body and nice interior. Give me another week and I'll be knocking up these forums every day, every 30 minutes I bet.

It wasn't too bad. Just took a bus and friend, $100, and made it back with roughly ~$60 gas. Either way, still under $2600, and I love the car. If I had time, I would have shopped around Atlanta (would much have rather done that than go that far) but school, time and work just wouldn't let me.
Either way, I'm satisfied with the car. ![]() |

Haha, well I use to play online games a lot, CounterStrike, Starcraft, etc., and it was my game name.
Actually started when someone told me to hurry up to make an email address name years ago. I'm one of those guys that takes forever to order off a menu... but anyway, I laughed and saw a basket of potatoes randomly on the guy's television. It's just something made up in a hurry so there ya go. :P |

I got a question: How do you find the engine code on the motor? Or is there one at all stamped somewhere. When I went down to get it, it has a 2.0 head on it. I just want to make sure it's the 5S bottom end or not without taking it all apart.

The VIN also gives you some clues too. For example: JT2SW22M9M0000000 The 4th digit, "S," means it's either 3S-GE, 3S-GTE, or 5SFE The 6th digit, "2," means it's an MKII. 1 is MKI, 3 is MKIII The 7th digit, "2," mean it's a Turbo. "1" is NA |

I appreciate the info, emtee. But that isn't what confuses me. I just want to know if it's the head swap or full motor (seriously doubt that though). The guy I bought it from forgot to mention the dealership he got it at replaced the head. I just wanted to make sure because it'll help me with my next step with the car. |

Couple more pics. I've detailed it since these pictures so they don't do justice. Along with the fact it was shot with a camera phone...
