New owner in SoCal... love the car

Hey everyone... just picked up a 1991 mr2 N/A for a great price and the car is extremely clean!!! First order of business however is replacing the factory stereo. Anyone do there own on this model before??? if so i am going to use cruchfield and do the install myself! I thought i'd add, i have owned many tuner cars from SRT-4's to an svt focus and a saab 9-3 aero and never fallen in love with a car this fast! is it as addicting to fix these things up as it already seems?

Simi Valley (about 30 min north of Los Angeles) and as far as the pics are concerned i'm workin on it... The car had a lot of oxidation on the paint but the Interior is near perfect... so once i finish detailing the outsite and getting the oxidation out i'll post the pics!!

Stereo is the same as any other, what are you looking for in a stereo set up?

Thinkin about putting my 2 MTX 10" subs in custom boxes behind the seats... A panasonic head unit along with 2 5" Polk audio speakers in the door panels, Also adding 2 tweeters in the existing tweeter mounts... I am thinkin its pointless to put anything else in the rear speaker housings as they will be hard to hear with the sound coming from the subs. I also feel its a small enough space and i should spend the extra money on higher quality speakers in the front!

MR2 Speaker Enclosures . Com

try that link, those boxes are great...as far as the fronts go look into maybe some custom kick panels. that is going to be the best but bet for really great audio in the 2. or you could try angling out the door speakers to face the riders, but after looking into that myself i dont want to hack up a door panel to do it. as far as the rears go, if they are adjusted and faded properly they wont overpower the fronts and take away from the staging, and depending on what your subs power handling is, then that shouldnt be a problem either. lots of folks here say ditch'em. but i think they are good for those long topples rides. but thats just my 2cents...

great link... i think i'm gunna try to build my own first and if that dosent work out well i'm going to order those... Thanks again.

Also i am very nervous... i just took my car in to get a once over by a local mechanic to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong with the car... I have had it about a month now and not noticed any problems aside from the occasional squeek from the brakes. I'll let ya know what comes of it!

those boxes are about as cheap as you will find and you know they are going to fit...the only advantage to building your own is designing the airspace to to fit whatever sub youre using, post some pics when you get the build done.

Well its done!! I completely replaced all speakers and added a 10" sub and
600 watt amp!!! The sound is amazing...

Lets see i started off with the rear panel speakers... i took your guys advice and installed 5" Polk Audio db501 2 way speakers in custom brackets on each side in the rear panels. Next i Installed Infinity reference Component Speakers (one way in door panel, and tweeter into the factory tweeter spot!) without much trouble other than drilling a few new mounting holes in the door. Also a note, the factory tweeter housing will take a 1" tweeter just wedged into the factory foam with a small piece of foam behind it to keep it snugg! then came the Head unit. I put in a Panasonic CQ-C83030 cd/mp3 player and custom mounted a ipod control unit into the filler compartment beneth the sterio. Next i wired the amp from the battery in the front through the center consol to the compartment where i am assuming a factory sub woofer may have been?? dont even know if that was an option. Then wired the sub in a box a found at best buy of all places that for $60 fit like it was factory behind the passenger seat! I'll Get some pics up of the results as soon as i can, however i didnt take many of the process as we were fighting off rain here in soCal for the entire install making it impossable to remember pictures! Oh well thanks again for the advice and i hope to put pics up soon!!!!!

Oh BTW, Anyone know of any kind of MR2 meetings or rallys or anything near me (Simi valley, San fernando valley)
