Talking Hello from the snowy hinterland

Hello everybody! Really nice site! This is my first time ever interacting with posting / threads / being a member, etc on any site!
I have a red '86 MK1 that I love - completely unadulterated (so far, bwahahahaha) with the 5-speed stick and gigantic sunroof! The previous owner put it on '01 MK3 rims that look awesome with that angular body. I bought it a year ago. The body is completely solid. Right now she's up on jackstands in a friend's garage - she's had intermittent overheating issues, and with the Haynes manual I think I have it chased down to the engine compartment temperature sensor. I'm new to working on cars - always have tinkered around the house and on the mower with limited success, so this is thrilling and, of course, daunting at times. Replacing some fuel lines and vacuum lines while I'm in there (all the ones I can spot both ends of), and thinking about removing the AC since I never use it, in order to lose some weight. Also have an eye toward putting some aftermarket air intake on her. I'm wondering about Preservation Class with this car, and people's experience / opinions on that will affect my decision to go ahead and pull the AC or not, and what brand or style of intake to go with, so look for me on the forums or write back if you have input!
