New from Valley of the Sun

Hello all,

Just picked up my first mid engined car, a 1986 MR2.

Ive had a lot of FF drive cars, a few FR cars, but this is my first MR car. Getting used to it, but I really haven't pushed it much yet, just because it needs some work to get back to 100% power. I think I lucked out on this one though, because its got a straight body and frame with no real dents to speak of, 65k original miles (verified), and the only thing really wrong with it is the paint. All for only 500 bucks! Granted, it is pretty much gutted on the inside as the previous owner was preparing it for track duty, so no AC, heat, or radio. Details, details.....

A few quick pics I snapped off:

I am looking forward to learning more about this neat little machine, and meeting more than a few car crazy people with a passion for this car.

The fact that you found a car with a good body makes it a great find all by it's self. Toyotas "rock", no doubting that. But, they aren't really known for their body "life" Just look at their trucks. After a few years, you can almost bet that they have rust around the fenders. Around here, there it is. From me that is...

Thanks to all for the welcome.

Not sure what he was thinking when he sold it to me. He had just finished putting tires, brakes, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, and he included a stock turbo from a WRX, with the intercooler, downpipe and uppipe included as well! I thought it was too good to be true as well, but I did all my background research and everything checked out!

I had originally gone looking for a cheap car to buzz around in until I get my S2000 put back together, expecting to get a super high mileage beater with misfires and the whole bit..... but boy was I surprised to find this!

Thanks kanga! Looks like you managed to find a pretty decent ride yourself!

Do you ever go to the Scottsdale Pavilions on Sat night?

welcome to the world of mr2's! I'm usually out at the Pavs, as are 2-6 other mr2 owners on a pretty consistent basis. we used to have a lot better member turnout, but people have become busier in the past couple years. maybe this next year we can revive the club some I know of at least 4 mr2 owners that would be willing to show for some fun!

BTW, yay for us all having mk1's

A college friend had a twin to that blue car with Tokico Luminas and springs, that thing felt like a German car and cornered like it was on rails. This was back in 88 so it was pretty new, I loved that car, it was solid as hell.

I live in AZ as well I will look for you guys at the Pavs also.

Sweet! Yeah thats prob the first mod i will do once I fix all the little stuff to make it whole again. I'm prob going to go that exact route, maybe try to find myself some TRD springs and set them up with the Illuminas. Probably some stiffer sway bars as well....

Looking forward to seeing you all at Pavilions!

Small world, Greg I think I spoke to you 2 weeks ago about some tires or something on craigslist, you told me your wife made your website. Is that correct?

Is it you that I bought the tires from?
