Just got a first generation
Hey all.
I've had my MKI for about 2 months. I am in California. I took a day long bus ride and drove it back home through the night. It took awhile to find the right MR2 for me but now I've settled into it and I have a few questions. Don't know if this is the right place to ask but here goes... The fast idle is over 2K. Best way to adjust? Brakes squeak when cold. Leave it or fix it? There is plenty left on the pads. When it warms up after braking about 5 times the squeak goes away. Steering wheel vibrates at 60ish...had the wheels balanced twice. One guy told me it's the struts but this seems unlikely. Any thoughts? And last but not least. I put in a Tacoma stereo (just plugged right in albeit the plugs are upside down) but the speaker under the seat doesn't work. Anyone know how to fix this without going to an installer? Thanks! |

Welcome
![]() 1. fast idle = cold idle? Not really sure, but there should be a little adjustment screw for you to turn the idle up/down. That could need adjusting. I would look at other things first though. 2. I would leave the brakes, my MR2 does this as well, usually only takes a stop or 2. When the pads get worn, I would get a rebuild kit and rebuild your capilers and get disc resurfaces/replaced if need be. 3. The vibrate could be anything suspension wise but good money if the suspension is stock, it's shot by this point and could be redone as with the rest of the suspension. Might want to get her up in the air and inspect it for yourself, see what all as far as ball joints and whatnot could be replaced. 20 year old car, I am guessing most of it could use a renewal. 4. No idea on the stereo, but if it worked before, then the harness could be a lil diff. If it didn't the speaker may just not work alltogether. I'd check that it's connected and getting juice and then check the wiring diagrams for your car and that stereo to figure out which wire controls the speakers. Goodluck! |
