Anyone Else in Bend?
Greetings all -
Car is still buried in the drifts here in Bend, Oregon so I'm not sure why I even bothered to purchase snow tires. This is first winter here and hopefully next year garage will have enough room for it. It is a red 1988 SC T-top with just over 100K miles. Light mods - larger pully on SC, bigger intake/exhaust, 15" wheels (for summer). Just put 4 new shock carts in. That was the 1st replacement, what a mess. Now need to replace all of the bushings and maybe it won't wander all over the road. Biggest problem is still the leaking T-Tops. Have replace the seals as well as install the offset sockets for the locking pins. Still leaks about 25% of the time. Would love to know if anyone has every really solved this problem. Would love to meet other MK1 owners here in Bend. I've seen an 86 running around town- LP of 86 MR2. Mine is Red Toy. |

KBOX
Yes, i purchased the T-top Eccentric Anti-Leak Guides (Toyota MR2 MKI) from KBOX after replacing the seals. They have helped but not solved the problem. I purchased them as soon as they came out, probably about a year ago. So early that they came with no instructions and there was nothing on their website as to how the worked or how to install them. We did figure out to put them in to make the tops as tight as possible. Like I said, a help but not the solution.

try massaging a little bit of silicon dielectric grease (yes spark plug stuff). this was a TSB from GM dealing with their leaky t-tops. i wonder if your chassis is tweaked or something seeing how you already changed the t-top seals and all.

Wow, I kind of found this thread by accident. I don't know of anyone else in Bend, but there are a few of us over in the Eugene/Springfield area, and at least one MkII guy in Sisters. Stop by the dealership and say hello if you get over this way!
By the way, we have new T-top seals in stock and on sale right now if yours are still leaking. They are $54 per side. Check it out: Lithia Toyota: T-top, window, sunroof seal and weatherstrip sale! |
