Hello All.
New to the forum and looking forward to it. Hi gang.
A bit of history: An 88 Corolla FX-16 GTS was my first car after high school. Great car with the 4AGE engine. Drove it from 89 to 92. An 88 na t-top was my second car. Drove it from 92 to 98. Sold to my brother and bought a Tacoma, which is still my daily driver. It's boring as hell to drive, but having done it in both, the Tacoma is better suited for mountain biking camping trips with two big guys. Last year my brother bought a 85 MR2 for $250. We raced it in the 24 Hours Of Lemons and took 18th in a field of 85 cars. It was our first race of any sort and the most fun I've ever had. I can't tell you how more I appreciate these cars after racing one. I started a local 24HoL team and we just bought the crappiest MR2 I've ever seen. I'll be mining the site and forum for repair performance tuning advise. I'm interested in getting an NA MK1 for a daily driver. I've also been exploring the idea of an electric conversion. Check out our team blog: The Verbose Beater-car Racing Chronicle |

Welcome!! Always good to have another speed addict
Grats on your placement in the 24HoL. Very cool stuff! Do the racers all take it seriously or is it just a parade for some?

(Sorry for the slow response. I just got home from a vacation to Mexico.)
You would think you couldn't take a $500 car race seriously, and for many cars/teams this is true. Just have as much fun as possible before the car dies, and finishing is a bonus. But there are some impressive performers on the track and the racing becomes very real very quickly. All but a couple teams show excellent sportsmanship and a sense of comradeship develops easily as you wander the pits visiting with other racers. |

That is awesome!
Check out U-MOC (utah mr2 owners club). I think you will find those guys interested in helping you achieve your goal. Fair warning though...the forum is by far not the most professional places on the net to visit, however there are some pretty intelligent people on that forum. Pretty intelligent....never heard us explained as such, haha.
Ya, we are highly informal but it's a good group of guys, we keep getting more and more MK1 owners every week it seems. Where do you race in the 24HoL? MMP? |
