You have found the right place. Welcome and congratulations. Upgrades go from mild to wild. It all depends on how much you want to spend. What are you looking to do? Interior, exterior, hp goals, etc.? Any pictures of your car? When I first got mine, reupholstered the seats, shift boot, short shifter, other misc. interior stuff, put in a system, alarm, changed the suspension, intake, boost controller, tubro timer, boost and egt gauge, exhaust, downpipe, tune up (belts, pump, gaskets, etc.), brakes, and rims. Next is new turbo and intercooler. The board sponsors here usually have group buys and lots of ways to spend your money (they can be found here: MR2Board Sponsors - Toyota MR2 Message Board). If you are looking for some ideas from people's wish list, check this out: >>Whats your DREAM build?. Good luck!

Well my first priority is getting the car tuned up. The car runs great but it's got some mileage on it 146,000 miles more or less. I'm not planning on going to high on hp, but at least 250-300whp. My first project will be doing belts, gaskets, water pump, etc. I want to go with a better turbo and manifold, but out of curiousity how much boost can a stock turbo take? I would like to do about 14-15 psi, but obviously i'm going to need a decent amount of upgrades to reach 300whp, I'm on a budget, but any lower priced items that work well would be great. I don't drive the car much it's usually just parked so no need for some hardcore parts that cost alot. Any suggestions or safe places to shop would be great. Bodykit place would also be great, I want the TOM's kit, but can't seem to find it.

You're already on the right track. Maintence is key for this car. You could boost that much stock, but get a boost controller and boost gauge first. You might want to get a fuel cut defender as well. Your hp goals are very reasonable. With a CT20b, new intercooler, exhaust, down pipe, walbro 255, some 550 injectors and you are there. Tune all of the above and you could see some more hp. Suspension is also important, especially since the car is 16 years old. Even on a budget, make sure you do it right the first time around. The additional parts and time it takes more than makes up for doing it right the first time. If you are looking for quality OEM parts (belts, pumps, gaskets, seals, wires/cap/rotor, oil filters, etc.) Aaron Willis is the guy to go to. He's a board sponsor from Lithia Toyota (awillis@lithia.com). Berk Technology and EMS powered are good places to start looking for mods under the hood. If you want to find some parts and don't mind getting them used (electronic boost controller, turbo timer, exhaust, downpipe, etc.) go to Toyota MR2 Classifieds! or the for sale section here. Good luck!

I just want to say thanks for the information on this forum. I'm a long time TOYOTA owner and last October I bought an 87 MR2 as a project car and my daugther love it. Now I'm trying to stop the oil leaks of over 200K miles. The body is in great condition. Now I need to learn the mechanical part. This weekend we drop the transmision to put the real main seal and change all the radiator hoses. In the process I broked the air flow meter now I will be searching for a new one. As I said first this is a project car to be for autocross and open track now I believe that my daugther won and I will looking for another MR2.
