WV Mk1 Owner
I am a 7 year MK1 Mr2 owner, I have surfed this board many times for valuable advice but this is the first time I've created an account to post from. I own a titled 85 Mr2 and a junk 86 Mr2 body. Currently trying to rebuild it from the bottom to top. Power steering equipped and 5spd 4age. All stock, all original equipment. A lot of things on this car dont work anymore or need some TLC. Just bought a new house, so I'm going to be doing what I can as the money comes. I will be posting more, and looking for a little technical advice as I work. The engine originally ran as long as you were giving it gas, if you dropped down to idle it would just stall out. Had a mechanic check it out and it was firing just fine, after a while he was unsure of what it could be after he cleaned the throttle body and such. After a while it stopped starting, come to find out the fuel pump was DOA. I recently jacked it up and ripped off the tank. Certain pressure fuel lines would not come off so they were sawed in half. I need to find out the best place to replace these, and I'm considering the best route to fix the clipped electrical wires on my fuel level sender unit before I put the tank back into place with a new pump in it. Anyone have a recommendation for anything I should wash the tank out with before installing the new pump and if I should fix the wires or put an aftermarket sender in, and where to get the fuel lines for the best price. I'm trying to repair the typical rusted rear fenderwells, and then will undercoat them from the inside and primer the outside until its ready to go. I'm 27 with moderate mechanical knowledge, working towards a Mechanical Engineering degree at West Virginia University and interested in multiple projects with this car, including forced induction, twin-induction, and giving it some perks to the appearance that aren't common for a car of its age and style. It wants some TLC and after 7 years and 2 cars, I think it deserves some. The feeling of driving the MR2 is unmatched in its day and age. If your from an area close to WV hit me up, also if you can provide some advice for me, you can PM me as well. Thanks.
