Hey all...I'm actually not an Mr2 owner yet. I've been searching for the past month for one that tickles my fancy as it were. I wanted to gather more info before making my purchase and figured this is the best place to do it. Thanks!

Toyota MR2 Classifieds!
craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums
Used Cars, New Cars, Buy a Car, Sell a Car, Car Dealers - AutoTrader.com

Thanks for the warm welcome. I live in San Clemente, Ca right now. I'm looking for an MkII...I've wanted one for a long time and now seem like a good time to buy. I'm trying to decide if the turbo model is right for me or if I should just stick with a N/A...

Welcome . People here are very helpful, you found the right board, haha.

As far as what to go with...it really depends on what you want and how much you're willing to spend. Turbo is going to cost more, and swapping a turbo motor into an NA is pretty simple. NA's get better gas mileage and are more dependable/cheaper to fix, but they are also a lot slower. NAs are cheaper insurance as well. It is nice having a turbo from the factorya nd not having to do a swap. It's really all about weighting your options.

You have 3 styles of chassis as well, a hard-top, sunroof, and t-top. Hardtops are the most rare and only came on the 91-93 models. Sunroof is prob. the next least common and only offered on the NA's in 94-95. t-top is the most common one you will find and came on all models/years IIRC. I know all 94-95 turbos are t-top. Hardtops are the lightest, and then the sunroof/t-tops are about the same IIRC, the sunroof might actually be more. Either way, pretty close haha.

Next, have to think color. Most common is red. There are 2 types or red, one dark and one a super red (brighter). Next most common would be black, then white (2 kinds of white as well), followed my steel mist grey, yellow (2 types also), and finally tropical blue metallic (goodluck finding this). Steel mist grey I know what only available 91-93, and trop. blue metallic only 94-95. The different yellows and whites I BELIEVE depend on year, and the red I am not sure, seems to be a mix w/ no definite year or anything.

Year also has an effect. 91's are by FAR the most common. You don't see very many 92's at all, but nothing changed between 91-92 so they are basically the same cars. 93's had different suspension (sat 1'' lower), different power steering (91-92's had power steering, 93-95 have power assist), and the turbo models have bigger brakes by a little bit. The rear cross member, the front lip, and the inclusion of 2 rear subs instead of one (only w/ premium sound package) are also differences on the 93-95 models. 94-95 got body-colored trim on the turbo models and different spoiler and lights.

There are different options available to the MR2 as well. MOST of them have power everything, steering, doors, mirrors, and ABS. Some however came with some of the options deleted, such as manual steering rack, no ABS, manual doors/mirros, etc. Some prefer these as they make the car lighter, and something like having no ABS or power steering makes the car feel and handle different. Neither better nor worse than the other, just different.

Anymore questions? I tried to cover it the best I could. I also assumed you are looking for a MK2? the 91-95 model year MR2's? If not, then ignore all this info, haha.
