Bought a 1993 mr2 from a dealer on eBay, listed as 93 automatic white, blue cloth interior (although the lining above looks gray), 2.2L 4cyl. Carfax.com lists my engine size as: 2.2L L4 FI. Autocheck.com lists my engine as 2.2L I4 MPI. However, my mechanic/trusted family friend is looking for an exhaust manifold heat shield that I need, and told me the inside of my door says the month of production is 5/1992, making my car not a 93 but a 92! This is a confusing topic for the mr2 from what I've read--can anyone help me figure out what year parts am I supposed to be looking for? and is the car I bought really a year older than advertised? grrrr. (if it helps, VIN JT2SW21M9P0018729) thanks guys

Some skills

Your cars a 93. Tenth digit of the vin is the year. Usually, they're selling next year's cars by april/may. They've already got 09 Toyota models for sale at the dealerships, and its only May of 2008.
Also, 2.2L L4 (line 4) FI (fuel injected) and 2.2L I4 (inline 4) MPI (multi port injection) is the same thing. |

The tenth 'digit' in that VIN is a 'P," which codes for a 1993. Vehicle identification number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

meh, as just a good little daily auto is fine. I wouldn't swap it out unless I was doing a turbo swap. One bonus is the gauge cluster in an auto looks cool lol.
Enjoy it, good looking car . |
