Buff or Paint?
I bought a 1991 NA MR2 from my uncle back in November of '07. Now that I've built up my savings account, I'm looking to empty it once again, this time to upgrade the MR2. I've been researching converting it to a turbo, but it seems cost-prohibitive and fairly complicated. When I bought the car, it had a few noticeable scratches and the paint on the wing was pretty oxidized. In the half year since I bought the car, the oxidation has spread to where almost the entire car has an oxidized appearance. Will a determined buffing job do anything to solve my problems, or should I look into getting a new paint job?

I had my red one professionally buffed out for $400 and it was perfect. A hell of a lot less than a paint job.

I'd classify it as chalky. I can only see the majority of the oxidation if I look at the car from a certain angle. Though there's a rather large (and growing) patch on my hood, and my wing is completely faded.

Tip: get a GOOD buffer, use 3m perfectcut, and make sure it doesn't dry out. last thing you want to do is run it down to primer!

you can order it online or ask your local body shops where they get their supplies. |
