New to the board

My name is justin, i just purchased an 88 mr2 NA, i will be picking it up saturday morning. Can't wait! I do have a question however. I don't know if the timing belt has ever been changed, and i know on some imports if that breaks it does alot of damage in the engine, is this true with the mr2 also? (sorry i usually work on domestics, this will be my first import "toy"/ daily driver)

Welcome, Justin!

What you're asking is wether or not the engine is interference. If an engine's valves at their lowest extension will collide with the pistons at their tallest extension, that's an "interference engine". I'm afraid I don't know for sure if this engine is or not.

You know how to inspect a timing belt, right?

At school we call them a "free" or not free engine so i wasn't sure what to call it. No not on these cars, i just checked one on a 94 jetta in shop class but thats different i'm sure
