another noob
hey there I'm Michael, and live in western washington, was given an 87 MR2 as a birthday present last month to be a project car, and have been just doing some research since then... don't have a ton of experience with what I'm trying to do with this car so I'm hoping that I'll be able to gain some priceless info from here on the points I have no idea about at the moment, and when all is said and done I hope to have a very nice looking and extremely quick little play toy for the weekends and fun times.
Pros: car is in GREAT shape considering its almost 22 years old, all I had to do was throw in another battery and it fired right up Cons: the tags are bad ^_^ seriously thats all... the guy who gave it to me warned me it won't pass emissions but I'm pretty sure I don't even need to worry about that considering the age of the car I think I won't have to even take them what I am wanting to do: I would really LOVE to see the motor in it already get replaced with either a 3sgte from an mr2 turbo, or a 3sge (if I could find a red top with VVT-i I'd never stop smiling) and doing the same thing with the transmission, now I know alot of owners don't like that idea because its all about restoring them now, but this is NOT going to be a daily driver, not really sure exactly what I'll be doing with it but it will not be used for illegal street racing I can assure you of this fact... might get a few dozen high speed tickets late at night durring the testing phase of the project but thats something else entirely. my timeline: I'd really like to be able to just work away at this all winter long when I have free time and be able to start enjoying it as soon as the weather gets a little better in the late spring/ early summer... start looking for pics around then ^_^ anyways thats my intro, thanks for reading it and I hope to make alot of new friends around here... till later |

Welcome. You should throw up some pics now and then later after you've put your own personal touches to it.
I have an '86, since July of this year. No mechanical mods. None planned. 112HP and 41.1mpg highway is enough for me. Got a Momo wheel & shift knob and a Sony deck & Infinity speakers. I want to get rid of the "triangle" wheels and get a set of Koni struts. There are a bunch of guys who can help you with the performance stuff. I'm sure they''ll chime in. |
