New member here... need help deciding!

I'm not new to MR2 since I used to own 89 MR2 SC ( blast to drive )but made a BIG mistake of selling that car. Now I'm in the market of getting another one.
I don't really care if its MKI or MKII, so i found these 2 MR2's and couldn't decide which one to get..

Clean 92 5speed MR2 N/A with a blown engine, owner forgot to check the oil.
I'm thinking of buying this one with the intention of putting a rebuilt stock engine. ( not a speed freak so stock engine will do! ) I was quoted by a local shop, $995 for a complete rebuilt engine ( Is it Motor Time? -- Quality Rebuilt Engines from Motor Time! ) and $1395 for a complete engine installation with 2 yr unlimited miles. Does the price look reasonable? know any good shop that will do the same service? any local member ( northern cali ) that offers the same service? I'm looking at $4K to get this car running with pretty much a brand new stock motor or should I just find another MR2 that doesn't have engine problems?

1986 MR2 5 speed with stock motor ( around 215K miles ) that runs good, no engine problems but will need a good tune up to get the engine in better condition, decent body with small dings and dents but no major accidents.
I'm still looking for a quote for a complete rebuilt stock engine and installation. any ideas how much would it cost?

which one is a better pick? ( the car will be used as a toy car.. )

thnks....

Welcome to the board!

I'd say 4K with a new engine sounds pretty good. How many miles are on the MKII chassis?

And how much are they asking for the MKI?

I'll be selling a 91 hardtop na (auto) white with 158k miles on it in a few weeks. I still need to do some work on it and am gonna be doing a black interior swap in it. Let me know if you're interested. Manual tranny swaps aren't too hard...
