Hi Im new here
hey guys i dont actualy own a mr2 but im thinking about it
i curently have a 2000 honda accord ex v6 automatic I dont know if you guys know but the 6thgen accords have a big problem with transsmisions going out. unfortunently mine semes to be on its way I have 4 options 1. get a new tranny from honda for 3 grand and pray it doesnt go out too (some people on my forums are on their seccond and third from honda) 2.Do a tranny swap to an acura 6speed mt (about 5-6 grand) 3.swap in a dr. evil tranny for about 4 grand 4. Sell the car and buy something else with the money i get from it plus money i originaly saved for proformance parts for the car lol i was thinking i would be better off selling the car and getting into something else. and by something else i mean an mr2 so i was wondering what you guys thought about it you opinions/sugestions is there anything i need to know anything i should consider thank you any help is greatly appreciated |

Welcome aboard... Well for one thing, 91-95 MR2 is pretty old so do expect to spend $$$ to keep it in tip top shape. For $3K+ you could definitely get a good one however. Think about what you want to do with your current car then decide. Maybe you'll even want to keep both? Its always good to have a spare car on the side. MR2s are pretty easy to fix and this is the place to get some input and a lot of help.
good luck with ur decision. |

$6K for a stock mr2 turbo that is well maintained is about the going rate. You should check it out, point out the flaws you see then go down in price from there. Here in california you can find an mr2 turbo for about $3K but usually needs engine work and probably some minor body work as well...
With your accord, daym i'm still stoke why they are charging you so much. Are you planning to take it to a dealer? They are definitely good if you have the $$$ to spend but I would go to a trusted local mechanic shop if you know a place. I think rebuilding the tranny etc is just about $700 bucks. |

Thanks guys i think ill go take a look at that mr2 tomorrow ill try and take some pics also
is there anything i should watch out for? oh and mr29180 I'm fairly sure there is not a recall, i would thinking i would have heard about it on my accord forum site. Honda is to cheap to want to change out the transmissions on most, if not all, accords made from 98-02 lol |

Things to look out for? Well they are pretty old car as mentioned. Make sure there is no CEL (Check Engine Light) that is on, i'd check for oil leak and make sure its not that bad to none, fire the car up see/hear how it sounds, rev it a few times, a/c probably does not work anymore as well since they are old if you can live with that. uummmm what else? ask the guy whats/when the last major service was done (timing belt, water pump)
good luck.... yeah post pix if you can |

welcome and about the mr2... definately take everyones advice and check it out real closely. and try to lowball the dealer as much as possible. oh and i noticed in the pics, i think the t-tops might leak... you should mention that and see how much you can get off the price. i know this because of the dark spot on the seat directly under the gap between the seals. my mr2 has the same issue. trust me, if it doesn't leak now, it did... but the car looks REAL clean so check out super close and good luck. any questions just post them.

Also tell them its missing the engine bay heat sensor and the plastic radatior cover. And that you have to repleace the aftermarket bov for a stock one.

i would be a little worried about the very heavy what looks to be dust all over in the engine bay. make sure to pull the air filter out and see how it looks inside the box and piping. im sure they cleaned or replaced the filter but they prob didnt vaccume out the box. also it could just be the pic playing tricks on me but the one of the frunk with the spare tire, it looks to me like on the drivers side, right behind the headlight, it looks like its smashed up or has been banged on. once again could just be the pic playin tricks on me. anyone else see it?

after closer looking, it is bent way out of shape right by the top of the strut mount. the metal is all tweaked. possibly an accident or something. make sure to look up in the fender well on that side for damage and rust. that explains why the hood is slightly tweaked all around the headlight on that side when closed.
