New member from Sonora CA

Hi my name is Robert. I have a 1991 NA Automatic, and in 2 weeks will have a 1993 automatic Turbo without the engine or transmission. I am looking to find a 3SGTE to put in, rather than swapping in my 5SFE. I like how the MR2 is not as common as other cars, and along with this is the need for uncommon knowledge. I think this website will be able to help me attain that knowledge more than my local parts store can. They can't even get the repair manual for an MR2, or new spindles. I'm in Automotive Technology at the local Columbia College and I would much rather be working on an MR2 in there than somebodies pickup. Thank you for providing a meeting place for MR2 enthusiasts.

welcome to the board. nice future plans you got there
first off i respect that you want to keep mr2s stock and etc the 5sfe.
the 93 prj that you have planned though is questionable. Turbo automatic Mr2s don't exist at least here in the states. GL to you man hopefully our forum brings some good to you

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am buying the T-Top Turbo shell because the interior and body are pretty much perfect, with low original miles. And it has nice rims and all the suspension components. The owner says it was her dreamcar, but she took it to the wrong shop trying to "mod" it, and they blew the engine or something. She said that the guy who owned it before her worked for toyota. I wonder why he would have switched to Automatic. I didnt see a turbo automatic in kelly blue book or anywhere else for that matter.
There is a 1995 Manual Transmission that I could snag right now, for 170 dollars. But if its set up for auto, I might just put that off. I'm thinkin about throwin in my 5SFE if I can't find a turbo for 1,000 or less. I have a feeling that thats too little money to work with for the 3SGTE right now.
So I've got a couple of questions....
MAINLY: What should I do, if "B" option is even possible?
A.) Should I take the auto transmission and engine out of my 91' and put those
into the turbo shell, which would probably cost a lot less?
OR
B.) Trying to get a 3SGTE with whatever transmission, working with less than
1,200 dollars cash, and a 1991 Automatic NA with body damage as a trade.
AND

RANDOMLY: Are front spindles from a 1995 JDM Turbo compatible with a 1991 NA?

Your answers will help me greatly. Either way it should be pretty fun, and a very
worthwhile learning experience.

you might have some difficulty putting a 5sfe in there from a older model 91-92s used cables for the odometer, while the 93+ are digitial. also. mmm so the this car is legitimate automatic turbo??? o.0 hmm.. odd mind if you share the vin # so we can figure this out i'm very curious what this car is.. unless the originial owner did a weird turbo swap.

I can get the VIN tomorrow. I let my phone die and have to get the charger back. I do know that it has red and black interior and seats, with "MR2" embroidered in red on the headrests. Was that standard for the 93 Turbo's.

Don't swap in the automatic...the conversion is easy and doesn't require much money. You'll be much happier in the long run as well with a manual. My white MR2 is stuck with an Auto tranny for now (only picked it up cause it's a white hardtop) but I'm gonna be doing a manual tranny conversion asap.

Oh...by the way. Welcome to the board!

I just got a hold of her. The car is in a shop /garage and the owner won't be back for a week or two because he races at the Salt Flats, and she doesn't have the VIN with her. I haven't bought it yet though. Or seen it up close. Just a few pictures of it. She wants $1,200 for it. If its actually just a NA Automatic shell, would it be worth that price?

For a T-top I wouldn't pay that much but it's kind of up to you. Fog lights are nice to have. One of the previous owners must have installed them. Easy way to know if it's a turbo or not...when you get the vin from her if it says SW21 it's NA...if it says SW20 it's turbo...
