Newbie
Hi everybody!I just registered today since I will be getting an MR2 soon and thought this is a good message board. There seems like alot of facts and parts for sale so I think I hit the MR2 jackpot.
Anyways the car is a 1991 naturally aspired with a 5 speed and T-top roof. Its blue inside and out.It has(Im pretty sure)17" wheels and ties and I have a pretty sweet looking body kit that came with it.Later all. |

Im from northern NY,a place called Norfolk. Its about 15 minutes away from Massena which is on the Canadian border. The cars in a small town called Colton NY.Its my moms boyfriends and Im gonna be getting it around spring-summer time.Im getting it for really cheap.$1000-1500 in payments. It comes with a new grond effects kit and I found out the wheels are actually 16s but they look real nice on the car.It has blue cloth interior as well.I need to find a cable for my aunts digital camera then she said I can use it to post pics on the internet.I got a quick question here which I am sure is a stupid one but what engine do I have in this car?Is it a 2.2?Is that a good engine to put some parts into and wake up a little? Thanks everyone!

inside the car look on the fdash and if you see a volt meter on the top in between speedo and rpm gauge then its a 2.2L N/A
Its a decent engine...but there are not that many performance parts around for it. |

Yes its in real nice shape.I believe it has been damaged once in one of the front fenders but its what Ive been told.It doesnt look it.The only thing is I think there was a very small surface rust or something where the front window is like the water got trapped or something but if worst comes to worst Ill have it cut out and replaced if I ever get it repainted.I forgot to mension it has new back brakes and rotors, plug wires, plugs and the owner runs synthetic so thats a plus.I think it has a around 100,000 miles on it.Also the guy always bought factory Toyota parts if anything was needed.

Well I found out the car is a 2.2 "2200 16 valve" as it says on the valve cover and I rode it around a little today. Its a real nice car.The body kit that comes with it is like a 3 lettered brand starting with T. I forgot what it is but its a pretty nice looking kit.I also put a tie rod on a different 91 MR2 today as well to start to learn about these types of cars. Thanks for the welcome guys!

The engine is a 5SFE (2.2L NA) Yes you can hop it up but only to an extent. The most HP you will probably get out of a 5S (stock 135hp) is around (estimated) 240hp and that will cost you close to 4K. If you want cheaper power you are best off doing a turbo swap.
The best mods for the 5S are Intake and Headers / exhaust. That is your cheapest route. Then if you want, cams and tuning. The highest recorded 5S output of 147 rwhp/153 rwtq can be found here: http://www.jimsnodgrass.com/dyno.htm |

If doing a turbo swap does it use a different motor of can it go on the 2.2?If it cant go on the 2.2 I would probally just put on a cold air intake and header and new exhaust for awhile.

I cant remember what the kit was called but ill find out again.I dont think it was a trd but maybe. It had a really big opening for the front grill and the sides make it look like it was scooping air up from the doors and directing it straight into a big opening where the stock side vents were.By next weekend I could get a picture or the exact kit on my moms red mr2 and post it up.Hers is the same kit.

Here are pics of the wheels and body kit I got with the car.The kit was like in the $500's.It almost looks like it does say trd on the wrapping and you can kinda see the size of the grill opening in the pic.The wheels are very dirty and salty and look like they could be needing repainting after awhile on the sides of the spokes.

I think you mean the Vielside kit? I would ditch that kit personally and buy something else.

Body kits are finicky... if its not a good example, it will be a headache for years to come. Unless you're fine with it not being perfect, of course.
