I just purchased my 1st MR2 Spyder. Had to get use to how low it 'sat'; it's like walking up to a pothole in the road, then sitting down in it. But once in [I'm 6'1" 200 lbs] it's very comfortable and I love the way it drives. I have already made a few mods: side moulding strips to protect the paint from inconsiderate Dodos; a very nice Bra; and I added extra wide tires and wheels [went to 215/45X16 front and 245/40X17 rear]. It now will stop on a dime and give 7 cents change. I plan on replacing the engine/tranny for a larger 4- built up [have to wait for the $$$ to roll in first], but it a definate plan. I currently have the original 4 wheels and near new Bridgestone Potenza RE040 tires for sale if anyone is interested. Would like to hear from anyone who has installed other 4 cylinder engines [or who is interested in the tires/wheels].

Do you have a MK1, MK2, or MK3. If it an MK1 you should check out the 280z fender flares. they are pretty eazy to rivet to your MK1 fender to add a little protection to your MR2. Not to mention they widen it out a bit.

welcome to the board hughmc1. there's a current thread i think on this board. about changing internals and tuning the 1zz then turboing it as well. most people would say a 2zzge (which come from the celica gts, cortola xrs and early matrix xrs models) then tune that. Just head over to the Spyder thread here on the board. probably have your answers there.
racer88 he stated above that he got a mr2 spyder so its a mkIII |

Welcome!
First off, pics of the car! If your not going to go on long road trips I suggest taking the bra off. Leaving it on will cause the paint underneath to fade due to the trap moisture over time. Well as stated above, you can swap in a 2ZZ, you can find the swap parts here:Monkeywrench Racing - Performance Sold Here - Celica - MR2 Spyder - Corolla - Lotus Performance |

Thanks for the post, but the Bra stays on. This is Las Vegas! The dirtiest, dumbest, most corrupt city I've ever been in, and with the worst roads in the country. I've had to replace three (3) windshields in the last 9 years. I even removed the 'deductible' on my Comprehensive.
As to the swap, my main concern is passing 'smog' testing for DMV, so I would assume the engine would have to be a 2003 like the car. The terms '1ZZ' and '2ZZ', etc. are foreign to me. Hope someone will clue me in. Hugh |

the 1zzfe is what is inside your mr2. The stock Engine it pushes roughly 140hp (i believe) w/ about 128 lbs torque with VVT-I .. It's a fe engine meaning its economical, saves gas. the 2zzge has about 170hp with 130 lb torque and has VVTL-i which is as close as you can get to i-Vtec (from hondas). like i stated about 2zz were in Celica GTs Matrix Xrs Corolla Xrs.
still trying to find that thread... maybe it was on the other forum.. just try the search above for 2zz things will pop up. Last edited by datguydeni; 07-05-2009 at 01:14 PM. |
