New in AL
Hey guys, just got an 87 NA Automatic with about 170k on the clock. It's in fairly good shape, but needs brakes, tires, and a new alternator at least. I'll post some pictures eventually.
BTW, tried to change the alternator out...is there a sleeve or anything on the bottom bolt? I couldn't get it to come out no matter how hard I pulled on it. Maybe it's just rusted in.. Anyway, I'm glad to be a member of this community. These first gen's are hard to find! |

Did you take the bottem bolt off? I havent had mine off in over 9 months so I forget the details. One should be a through bolt with a nut and one should be a bolt that just threads into the alternator.

i just took it off:
1: loosen up the top bolt with a 12 2: crawl under and loosen up the swivel bolt with a 14 3: move the alt back and forth to make sure its loose 4: remove the bolt and then take it out if you can't seem to wedge it out, try taking a piece of wood and put 1 end on the alt and TAP the other with a hammer. i had an issue with the part where the bolt is. there is this deal thats kinda like a washer in the braket and part of it was chiped off. i tried to get a washer in there but it wouldn't fit. i had to remove the whole bracket from the 2 12mm bolts and 1 14 underneath it. ask if you have more questions! |
