New Member from Vermont
Hi my name is Dan I am from Vermont as title says. I have a 1988 Mr2 i just got last weekend... what i didnt think it was 2 day. No Rust, t-top. No problems as he said but i was wrong... needs tires... front Struts and shocks, Ebrake freezes us... And sence this is my only car... dont hate me... but i am going to have to drive this in the winter... so i am debateing to keep with my 16s or get 15s rims with studs on it for the winter... i can image it be fun in the winter... but not so fun where i live infact very dangerous... 1 mess up i be in the ditch jumpping in the woods... and i live out of no where so yea pricey at that but i have alot of plans for this car. I want to put raceing front struts n shocks, i want to put a new head unit in it with a amp and mayby 2 10s behind seats i am thinking of gettin the truck boxs n haveing behind seat cuz i dont want to ruin the firewall.... cuz that isnt really replaceable... I do autobody so when i am done everything i will be painting it... I wish i could lower it but not where i live mayby i will if i move. And i may put a body kit on it. But its out in the open i do place to put raceing stuff on it. But I wont race just basicly a show car lol. oh and it turns to right veryyyy hard... something wrong with that side or something i have no idea... i dont know much about cars just autobody.. but i can read a book lol but other then that its been one of the most fun... i think it be more fun with new tires with these tires i litterly slide everywhere can be fun but i gotta be careful lol.... but it only happens near home so i guess i luck out lol.... i dont want to be doing that near anyone....
I have alot of plans for this car... and well like any car i owned allways i put a system in it. I will post pics of the car 2morrow its wayyyy 2 dark and my digi dont want to work with me. Dosnt come out the way i want it... Car: 1988 MR2 MKI T-Top Black, 110k Miles Just Low Priofile rims, Cold Air Intake, Cherry Bomb junky Pioneer Head Unit( cant handle speakers not even watts it just needs a amp or a better unit) |

I say ditch the 16's all together and get some 15's for the nicer months and get some 14's that are studded or just really good winter tires. As for the frozen e-brake cables, you can buy new ones. They are pretty easy to replace. Be careful removing the underbody panels. The bolts tend to break off. My cables freeze in the winter so I just park in reverse and on a pretty flat surface.

I had 16's for a few months and I had to replace the 2 front tires so I just sold the rims and bought tires for the 14" steel wheels. They are much cheaper to replace than those low profile tires. If I didnt have a tight budget I wouldnt be so worried about it but the $$ isnt there.

yea think the rims r 2 big cuz Back left tire allways gets flat.. i gotta put air in it everyday and front only scuffs on bumps cuz of struts n shocks... and i would think the front left tire cuz it has a hard time turning..... someone was saying a master Cylinder or something i have no clue for that... gonna have it looked at... I will replace n upgrade things but looking at n noticeing a problem isnt anything i know... I just do autobody lol and anyone messages me about rims... i know nothing about them... they were with the car lol But Tires r 195/50r16 i messured other day n came out 15 but i think they r 16s i cant see them being 15s lol... but rims r Enkel Raceing rims... and all i noticed on the rims is they say 650kb.... i found 14s studs still good in my house.... think they went to my 97 golf... we wont go there that car was the def of junk, I will never own a Vw again.. dam junk!!!

Your cruzin' now'
Well, Hey Dan,
Welcome to our little Mid-engined Runabout 2 crowd. Vermont has winter? Who would have known? I little "Blaster" penetrating oil on those rear emergency caliper parts every other day for a week just might loosen 'em enuff to work without stressing those 20 year old emergency cables. While your at it "Blaster" all those 10mm bolts that hold those 2 fairings under neath the car. There are some points where the emergency cables rub grommets too. An old motorcycle cable maintenance trick to make cable work again is to fill a baggy with clean motor oil, dip the end of the cable in the oil bag. Tape the crap out of the bag to cable. Invert the bag over the cable and hang from your garage rafter with a collection can underneath till the oil drains thru the cable. You might pop the console someday and oil the cable at the emergency brake, it's a separate cable assy from the others. Strut replacement cartridges are available (adjustibles?), (your car doesn't have "shocks" per se). No need to replace the strut body? (follow BGB instructions precisely!) Boy, that turning problem needs to looked at soon Dan, if you need a Rack drop me a PM, I doubt it's a column problem. Altho I live in the subtropics, but, I've driven my 89 in 6" deep snow in Detroit, Mich, like a snowplow, it was outstanding. The understeer factor doesn't allow you to turn at all?? but the car had amazing traction.(try putting tools and weight in the frunk for winter?) Be sure to flash us some pics as you jazz up the cars looks. Happy Motoring ya'll mr2tim |
