New member from Matsuyama, Japan!
Hello everybody,
I suppose I should have introduced myself here first - I have been lurking a bit in the forums and feel a bit guilty ![]() I live in Japan - Matsuyama to be precise. I'm an Australian over here, working as a teacher. I have always been a car enthusiast, but have mostly owned rotaries and the odd Nissan (S13, R32 GTR). Here is pics of my 1993 GTS that I bought recently. I was looking for an FD RX7 but they were a little out of my price range, so went with option #2 - a very tidy little MR2! And all I can say is I am very happy with it! ![]() It has a nice mod list including a TD06, Greddy Intake Manifold, big injectors, Power FC, HKS 272 cams, OS Giken twin plate clutch, TRD 1-way LSD, Pivot short-shifter, Trust gauges, coilovers, Border body kit, Toms duckbill spoiler, Advan wheels etc etc. Previous owner alleged it had over 400PS. I've yet to dyno it and find out but I plan to in the near future. I still need to finish off a few bits and pieces such as fitting new TEIN coilovers, and some minor paint touch-ups (including the Border front bar that I have crunched twice already) and getting some new rubber. I hope to have it as a nice weekend cruiser, do some lengthy road-trips on it as I travel and discover more of Japan, and have it as a part-time weekend warrior gymkhana, time trial car at one of the local circuits here. |

Ha ha yes the gold + blue come perilously close to looking the part of a generic Subaru fanboy. Now all I need is a nice set of white 17' TE37's to really set it off.
One great thing about living in Japan - parts and accessories are ridiculously cheap! |

I like option #2... very nice looking ride you got yourself there! I was just talking about a 93 hardtop I found yesterday that was a one owner car that I'm very interested in. Wish I had some cash free now, it would already be in the yard!! Welcome to the board!

One more thing -
Does anyone know what make/model these fixed headlights are? They came with the car, but I had them removed, and replaced with the original pop-ups to pass shaken. |

Looks great! The hose that is connected to where the BOV normally goes, where is it routed to now?

Hey Matey,
Welcome to the Mid-engine bunch. So what's the scene there in Japan.? All we see is the Fast and Furious scenes. Do they really have drifting contests downtown at midnight? |

Yeah the scene is still strong. Its a little more cloak and dagger now - as the police came down HARD on the drifters/racers. They still take off into the mountains late at night and form contests and touge races. They do it smaller groups now, so they can disperse quicker if the cops get a wind of things.
I was in my friends full-house Group N Lancer EVO VII rally car about 3 weeks back screaming up and down a dark mountain road. There were 3 of us - Tatsuya in his Lancer EVO VII, Jun in his EVO II and another guy in an Integra Type-R. I shot some video of it, but have to get it copied and edited up on my pc when I find the time ![]() |

welcome, and can I ask you one question? How aggressive is your trd lsd, 1 way? does it clunk when making a turn? Mine does. Just wondering if it was just me.

Happy to help out on parts! I'd love to set up as a trader - i already haunt yahoo auctions, wrecking yards and tuning shops here in my free time anyways; I might as well!
Any requests - pm me, and I'll see what I can find! |

It's very aggressive. Being a 1 way, the gears in the LSD centre are grooved forward in a fashion to allow for the most favorable lock up/direct drive going forward. Unfortunately, that means that reversing or turning at low speeds, loads up the teeth (and in a direction/load that's not forward) - hence the banging like there's a midget strapped under your car pounding away on your floorpan with a ball and peen hammer. The majority of LSD centres are 2 way, with elliptical grooves cut into the gears to allow for a smooth meshing of the gear teeth moving in either a forwards or backwards fashion, making it infinitely nicer to drive on the street. You'll find 2 way LSD's are usually preferred by drifters too as it allows tyre rotation forward and backwards smoothly - ideal for drifting it on the limit and pouring out smoke from the spinning rear tyres. I have a feeling my car is an ex quarter mile car since it has the 1 way, shift light, super soft rear suspension and avcd... No need to turn or go backwards at the drag strip I guess ('cept after your initial pre-stage burnout lol)
