15 year old from sydney, australia

Hi There
I'm a 15 year old boy from australia hoping to get a mk ii mr2 as a first car. I'll be on here lurking a lot gathering infomation though I wont be posting threads for a while. Here In australia street racing is very popular and due to this they have made a rule that 17-21 year old cant have a turbo car. So ill be on a look out for a non turbo mr2 I was just wondering is a mk ii mr2 practical as a daily drive and is it any good for a first car (17 y.o)?

Ash,

Wow, another 15 year old! I got my MR2 a few months ago, but ditched it for it's autotragicness.(automatic transimission.) It isn't very practical, but it's a whole lot of fun. The seats are comfortable for long rides, and it has plenty of leg/head room. The trunk doesn't hold all too much, and the frunk doesn't compensate too much. Anyway, you can get a PhD in MR2s in just two years. I joined a little over two years ago when I was 13, and I'm surprised at how much I learned. Welcome.

The MKII will be fine as a daily, I use mine everyday, even in the snow. Definitely read all you can around here, there's a ton of great information, although you won't truly know the car until you've driven it and worked on it. Welcome to the boards!

Also, I got my MKII when I was 16 and used it as my first car and have had no issues with it at all.

Welcome
It was my first car aswell
just remember that its a 20year+ old car, any 20+ year old car will need some work and its not quite as easy as other cars to work on.

+1 on that. MR2's are enjoyable cars to have.

Really? I think it's a really easy car to work on. My favorite feature is the exposed rear strut towers because of the engine bay. My friend's porsche, not so easy.

^ Most 20+ year old cars have **** loads of room in the engine bay such as my mums civic and mates pulsar, girlfriends mums Mazda Wagon.
It takes under a minute to take the valve cover off any of those cars, took me over an hour the first time I did it on my car.
Strut brace, throttle body etc etc.
Changing the oil in any of those cars is a 10 minute job, my car the oil filter is ALWAYS a hassle and has to be taken off with a screwdriver, there just isnt enough room.
Hydraulic clutch = pain in the ass, bleeding the system took far to long.
Luckily I have never had to but burping the coolant system is also far more difficult in these cars.
Also the Cambelt isnt as easy as it should be on the 3S-GE
Im not saying its a "hard" car to work on, but there is just a lot less room in the engine bay which is more similar to newer cars with all the plastic etc.
