Big Question
I have a 89 Toyota 4-Runner and a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I am selling the Eclipse because I like my Toyota more. My dream car is a 93-98 Supra but I don't have that kind of money so I'm looking at a MR2. What are the ups and downs of MR2s? I am planning on getting a turboed one so any advice would be great.
If anyone is interested in the Eclipse I have pics and I am asking $7,000. It has 76k miles on it, a 5-speed trans, and power eveything. It is very clean with a few extras. |

Well, the MR2 handles great, has a pretty good aftermarket, is an import, and can haul *** if you have a lot of $$$. Drag racing isn't the car's forte, but a few 2's have pulled some very respectable times at the strip. A road course is really where the MR2 is at home.
![]() The up sides are the rarity factor, you pretty much never see another one on the road, it's mostly pretty reliable, it handles great, it looks fabulous, it's unbelievable fun to drive fast, and you can get a pretty good example for not a whole lot of money. The down sides are the fact that Toyota charges a fortune for parts, the car is challenging to drive fast, getting tons of horsepower is very expensive compared to a lot of other cars out there, and since it's so rare sometimes it's difficult to find certain parts. |

well, like raptor said, u can definatly get some go fast in these cars, but u cant do it on hopes and dreams alone. if ur into drag racing, you might want to look for another car, unless you have some money to play around with.

After it's sold how much $$ will you have to work with? You can get a pretty good '91-'92 turbo for $5-6k.

Selling the pos pays off its loan and I can get another loan but my bank won't finance anything older than a 95 and I don't want to pay more than $7,000 for a car right now.

I have to commend you for asking questions about the car before buying it. I bought a mkIII supra thinking it would make a great track car, and in reality, it's a great drag car, but too heavy for good track use. I sold it and got my MR2. As for cars, I did a search on autotrader, and there isnt much around you. I found a 91 turbo that looks ok for $6k. here is a link http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e=&cardist=287
