New member and questions....

hey guyss whats up .. im new. i dont actually have an mr2 i got a gsr. but im planning to buy one... ive been thinking about getting an NA. and doing a gen2 or 3 jdm swap.. now ieve read on this site that u gotta get the full clip and all that.. i was wondering if u can just buy the motor and tranny instead of the FULLL clip... like these 2 sites http://www.jazzproparts.com/ProductD...SGTE-MR2+94%2B

http://shop1.jdmtheory.com/product_i...f6da7e7ddced5a

see how these are just the motor tranny ecu etc... not the full clip.. coulod i just do that and install this and get a new fuel pump?

also is it smart to buy a turbo mr2 at 150,000 miles for 7k.. thanks guys

The 2nd link says it's a clip. However, the first link does appear to be what you might want.

You would probably pay less for a clip since you don't have to pay someone else to remove all of that stuff from the clip. It's something to consider.

7K for an 1991 MR2 NA with 150K on the clock is WAY TOO MUCH! It probably shouldn't be half that.

If I were you, I would check the blue books just to make certain. Blue books sample the purchase price of cars to give you an accurate number.

Something else to consider: JDM engines are from Japan. There aren't any of those engines in the US. There are similar engines, but not all parts are the same. You might have difficulty getting some parts.

That said, I know tons of people who have JDM engines that don't seem to have issues.

Last thing: Swaps aren't as reliable as a factory-installed option. If you want a turbo, buy a turbo and don't monkey around with the clip and the tons of virtually worthless extra parts.

Welcome to the board.

If you buy just the motor and trans, and not a full clip, you are probably going to end up spending way more money to get the car running than you would otherwise. The clip insures you have all the little and very expensive to replace parts, from engine mounts, to wiring harnesses, to the ECU, etc.

Welcome, and i'd recommend getting a turbo from the start. Not just any one, but wait around, feel the market, and find the right one for the right price. i waited a year looking for mine and i love it, 16psi on the stock turbo since the second month of ownership til just a month ago, now it's 11psi on a much larger turbo and still going strong

if you wanted the swap for the lower mileage, i'd still suggest getting a turbo car (again, nice one), get the feel for the mr2, treat the engine right and it'll last you a long time. when it does pop, then get a rebuilt/forged shortie or longblock and swap it in, you'll be set for quite some time.

depending on other things, 7K may be ok for for a turbo with 150K, i bought mine for 6K with 120K on the clock.

It all depends on who does it. If you do it yourself not to much, otherwise it "could" run from 800 all the way up to 2200

Dave at PAAuto does pretty much nothing but swaps all the time. and he charges 1500 installation fee for a clip.

Hey, i sold my gsr to get an MR-2 too. If u get an N/A, u gotta get a lil more stuff to make it work. My N/A was much cheaper and my insurance is way cheaper than a turbo, also they tend to be less abused cause lack of power.
