Hello
I'm Everett from southern Maryland and I'm a huge MR2 enthusist and i've owned my blue deuce for about 3 years now. Its a 91' Hardtop N/A that I'm currently looking for a USDM turbo swap to transplant. I'm a young up-n-comng carpenter in my area and looking to start my own business within a couple years. I'm currently hunting for a complete turbo swap so if anyone can help me out send me an e-mail. I look forward to chatin with all you MR2 peeps! ![]() |

Hi Everett, welcome to the board. Are you looking for a turbo clip to do the swap yourself or looking to get rid of your NA for a turbo car?

I'm looking to do the swap myself. I already have the old motor and trans pulled. I bought the parts to build my NA motor but decided to just put a turbo motor in it. I'm keeping the hardtop more stable for more power. Allthough I'm always looking to buy another MR2, just waiting for the right one because I'm very picky.

Welcome to the board.
![]() Make sure you buy the whole rear clip together; don't try to mix and match and pick up parts here and there. It'll end up costing a fortune at the Toyota stealership from little things you didn't know you needed. |

Yeah, I'm looking for a MR2 in local junkyards. I wouldn't do the swap if I dont have all the parts. I'd like to have both cars in one spot and just transfer the parts over. I could understand what a big hassle it would be to chase spare parts around and the dealership would love me $$$$$

It's not a USDM clip, but a genIII is way better if you are just going to keep it stock. I love mine, Bone stock it beats almost everything I run into around here.

I would but the county I live in gets federal grants to impose emmission laws on cars. I dont think JDM engines will pass emmissions here. Other than that I'd get a JDM engine and kick some a$$!

My state isn't quite Nazi enough to impose retarded emissions regulations, so I don't know a lot about them, but perhaps you can use a jspec engine and just use a stock exhaust for the sniffer test, then switch over to a downpipe and good open exhaust for normal driving. I don't see why it wouldn't pass.

I think for visual inspection though some states would have a problem because they do look at the engine for an EGR, which the JDM engine dont have.........I think

Right, the JDM engine doesn't have an EGR. But most inspectors don't know their *** from a hole in the ground... so it depends who you get.

or, you can drill the required holes for an egr, and he proper usdm throttle body for the vac lines.
Josh provides this service for his jdm longblocks that he sells if the buyer so choses. So if you really wanted a gen3 in an emission strict state, then there are ways to get what you want. |

I dont know if they do visual engine bay inspection, I doubt they do. The only thing I think they do is hook up a hose to you exhaust and measure how much toxins are exiting your exhaust. The throttle body idea sounds great though. I'll have to look into it.

Hi Everett. You could find the right inspector and slip him a $50 once a year for that extra 75hp Gen3!!! I have the line on a mint condition 30k mile gen3T clip in the FS section.
Welcome! |
