How long would a swap take?
I was just wondering how long would an engine swap take? Im interested in doing atleast a gen II swap but i would love a gen III swap. I need a new car soon and i could buy an N/A shell for 1500. I am interested in doing the swap but i will need a car to get to school and work. So how long would it usually take? Thanks in advance.

It all depends on your experience the help you have or if your doing it by yourself or not, the parts and tools you have access too... it all depends on your situation. There are to many variables to give an estimate of time.

It took me 2 months to get mine completely done after ordering other parts i.e. exhaust, clutch, flywheel, etc...I did the swap everyday after work which gave me about 4hrs. In other words for a quick and clean swap, make sure you're going to get a clip and buy parts in advance and be dedicated. |

if you have EVERYTHING...I mean order tons of hoses gaskets you wouldn't even think you'd need....then it could be done in one weekend easily if you're experienced.

but i'd have to say that if you haven't done one before it can take a month+ in your spare time/weekends to get the job accomplished.... not Honduhs we have here ![]() |

It's cheaper and better in the long run to buy a $1000 beater car and take as long as you need on your swap. Do it right the first time or do it (and pay for it) twice. A $1000 beater car doesn't depreciate as long as it still moves under its own power. They can be a lot of fun, to boot.

Do you at CRW do engine swaps? Thats what i meant to ask. I know it would take me a little while to do it by myself, I do have access to a full auto shop where i can do it myself. But i was asking, if you do the engine swaps yourselves, how long would it take? Id of course buy a clip from you, and then drop off my car if thats the case.

time we ask for is 3 weeks but it all really depends on what you are having done at the same time as the swap and what our schedule is at the time. we usually like to get them in/out/in again in one weekend |

hmmm sounds good to me. So if i bought a gen 3 swap would you also swap over the taillights for me? and it would usually take a weekend. Sounds so tempting. I might go for this. Ill keep in touch and let you know when i want to do this. Thanks for the information.

Buddy of mine had never done anything of this calibur before, he swapped a 90 Celica GTS 5SFE for a 3SGTE with a clip (so he had everything), in a crappy garage, and he was able to do it (all wiring included) in 2 days.
His swap was crazy fast. He did an awesome job on it too. So if you have everything and you push the hammer down and get going on it, you can have it done pretty quick. But dont rush yourself. Oh and if you say it isnt a valid comparison with a celica, it is, because the swap is actually a bit harder and more time consuming cause you have to run the harness differently and its more of a pain than in an MR2. |

CA legal? hmmm...sounds so tempting. i do want Turbo...but then again ive been reading more and more about BEAMS and NA seems less of a headache. ahhh i cant decide! of course it'll take me awhile before i can get enough funds to do this, im only 18. but hopefully by summer or at the very end of this year i can do this.
