Trey, not all 5SFEs have igniters that work instead of gen3 specific ones.
Im in no way trying to step on Joshs toes, but this will benefit him too if he didnt know already. The 5S/Gen3 compatible igniter is PN 89621-26010. What is teh PN of the one you have and wont let you rev over 6k? And if Im wrong I need to know because I did a lot of research on this stuff when I compiled my info and list of part numbers. |

Also I do have a 93 5s mr2 sitting in my yard. I'm gonna see what igniter it has while I'm at it. I just can't stand not being able to really see what that gen3 has over 6k. Another question, is my 5S coil pack still good? or does that need to go Gen3? |

Its my understanding the coils are the same, You just need the distributor cap to match the coil youre running. If your coil has the clips on it, you need a 93+ 3SGTE dizzy cap. If you dont have clips, you need the 91-92 MR2 cap.

as for the coil... as long as it's a clip on style it's good. can use all NA (except 93+), 93-95 USDM turbo and 93-99 JDM --> all of these are clip on style coils... no US NA came with plug on style (not even 91 turbo but the coil plug socket is larger) for distributor cap gen2 93-95 USDM caps work fine on gen3 (same thing)... rotor is also the same and i have used the plug wires on it also (not in the special gen3 harness though) but you can find brand new OEM plug wire sets on EBAY for the gen3 since Champion toyota sells them there (or directly) |

well... if you want to try the gen3 igniter to compare it to the 93 NA then let me know... can work something out if you'd like to.

Gen3 swap DONE!!

The highest I could get it to go was like 6800-6900. Thats good for me for right now cause I really don't got a lot of money at the moment but I'll definitely pick one up sometime soon. I just got out of high school today so I can start working more, then money won't be a huge deal. Thanks for the help also.
