Carbon Fiber Replacement Parts
i've been reading on this site for a little while and i found some old threads about people wanting Carbon fiber replacement parts. i'm beginning to get into the manufacturing of carbon fiber made items. so what kind of items are you looking for? i'll make a list and try to keep it updated here. i'll list a few popular parts that i've seen a desire for to get thing started:
- Center Console - Doors (complete and door panels) - Dashboard - Fenders - Fuse Box Cover (probably the first thing i'll try) - Trunk Lid - Frunk Lid i dont care what gen you have just let me know. Also if you have extra spare parts lying around that could be possible candidates for CF let me know cause i'll need models for the parts. Last edited by brian587; 02-27-2007 at 12:27 AM. |

Dash, center console, and the carpet behind the seats would be nice. For that, think of how a Corvette or something is. It's just painted fiberglass, not carpet. Looks REAL nice.
w/ the center console though, I'd like to be able to have the storage box there too, or a CF storage box built in. The rear carpet would have to accomidate this as well. Dash would be my first choice, followed by the behind-the-seat carpet, then center console as far as interior goes. Exterier, CF fenders would rock, as with doors, doors just will have a little bit less of a market, and could be HELLA expensive. I'd buy them though (if they had shaved moldings...as with a lot of this stuff, might be best to make 2 versions). |

and as a side not...if things don't fit like new stock parts, it'll be a total waste. I know with a lot of people who start these types of things they try to make short cuts, or don't test fit several cars to get a solid mold, and it really shows in the finished product.
If I am able to put my stock vents and radio trim and stuff right into the dash perfectly (prob not the defrost vents up top..just build those into the dash I am guessing) then I'd be ALL over it as I am sure other people would be as well. Basic point, do HQ stuff at a reasonable price and you'll be a rich man. Nuff' said. |

alright thanks for the replys guys. i've been looking into different materials and things and i came across something kinda cool, and it would probably be alot cheaper then carbon fiber for interior anyway. it has the same weave as carbon fiber but its fiberglass. so i would only make it for interior pieces since durability would need to be less inside. it could come in either the standard black looking weave or it can come in an awesome looking aluminum coated version, so its really shiny silver. going with fiberglass would probably greatly reduce the price because carbon fiber is in short supply now worldwide.
i've also read on here about people interested in different color weaves. that would be more expensive but it can be done. but i've only found it in carbon fiber so it would also be more expensive that way too. but for the custom look that some are looking for it would be beautiful. it comes in a variety of colors but i would probably start out with black/red black/yellow and my favorite black/blue. and to just let everyone know i am probably about a month or two away from beginning any projects because i need to get the parts and i am also waiting for warmer weather. Well if you're just wanting the CF look, why not just use stickers?
Fiberglass wouldn't be too bad, if it was quality. I personally hate the look of CF, I just need to replace stuff and might as well shave some weight and get a custom look. I'd end up painting it anyways. Now what you're saying...is it just painting the fiberglass to look like CF? or is it some special method of making fiberglass? |

No its not painted. Its woven fiber glass. this is what it looks like. i would only use the first picture if you wanted to the carbon fiber look but not the carbon fiber price and strength. the second picture is the fiberglass with aluminum layer on it. again just if your looking for look in your interior.

I would suggest to start small to gain trust respect etc. Fuse box covers would be an awesome start imo.

For other small things you can also try:
* door handle/cup * trim piece surrounding door handle/lock on door panel * glove compartment face * shifter surround (oem style replacement) * steering column/neck surround * subwoofer boxes that fit well behind the seats to house 10" subs * radiator cooling plate (similar to the aluminum one available from Carbing) Good luck, and keep at it. |

Well since someone revived the thread my answer to this is stickers are gay and belong on civics. |
