Gauging interest: New CF Hood styles

Hey guys,

I don't know about you but I'm getting really bored of seeing border style vented hoods. So I started talking to a couple of custom carbon composite manufacturers. Showing them some designs that I think would be interesting and somewhat unique. Here is the one I'm interested in doing. So lets see what kind of interest we can generate for this project and if its high enough. I'll go through the proper channels and start a group buy.

NSX-R style hood

One of the two composite companies said with 15 people we would be looking at a rough cost of $600 CAD a hood for the NSX-R style.

If you guys have an idea for another design post them up!!

i'd be down for one if it came with pieces and brackets to make the radiator angled and the air path directed correctly.

They are a composite company. I don't think they could do that. I'm sure the Border rad relocation kit would work perfectly

I think that hood looks sweet... I also like Mr2liter's hood too. But, wouldn't the vented portion have to be alot closer to the front in-order to be located for the radiator? If not won't water(rain) pool up in the frunk? If so, I'm not so sure how it would look? Actually, I took another look... it would still look cool!

Sorry if this is off the topic... But, what's involved with making these vented hoods practical for venting the radiator and keeping the frunk dry? Other than changing the angle of the radiator? Is there a lot of gutting in the frunk... cutting/fabricating? I want a CF hood but, dont want to pay for a lot of custom work. Thanks!

The rad needs to be angled forward, another benefit from the vented hood is reduced lift. Assists in front end stability.

yeah... I sorta figured that. That's why I want one and really like the idea of something new. But, I was wondering about the inside of the frunk. Do you just take plastic cover off (don't know the name??) around the latch assembly? You know, the thin black molded plastic cover between the front bumper and the frunk... above the radiator. Or do you have to custom mold or cut something into the body of the frunk behind the radiator? Do you have to make-up new rubber surrounds to seal the new hood down to the inside of the frunk? Or is it all just bolt on? Not sure if I am making sense. I don't wanna see a body shop yet... that's kinda where I'm going with this.

BTW.. love your magazine man! I just started reading it since the feb issue when I saw the bat outta hell wide body supra. I've been hooked ever since!

I want to get an idea of what every one wants. So post your name and the style hood you want.

The hood must have a under structure, and use factory latches and mounting.
To use this hood you should cut the front (frunk) and make ducting.
The idea is to direct the air that passes through the radiator out and over the car. (letting air backup and not duct correctly will cause severe drag on the car and will be whorse than factory.)

Yeah... that's what I was thinking. More has to be done in the frunk. Thanks for chiming in. Sorry to hijack the thread too...

The NSX-R will definitely look great on an MR2.

That NSX hood looks a lot like the one offered by Ask Sport in Japan.

Personally, I'm not sure it will follow the body lines of an MR2 well. The NSX has much sharper angles, I find.

I thought I added myself..

2. ExtremeMr2 Waiting with cash in hand.

I have heard horror stories about the Border knock off hoods not fitting right.. I would be willing to pay for a custom hood like this that will fit nicely.
Which brings me to ask.. will a prototype be made first to test fitment before the production run?
