Making custom parts
I'm currently working on some of my own custom MR2 parts. I'm a rookie at fiberglass work but I've already have a couple moulds made-up. Its pretty hard to figure out how to purfect the process so if anyone is experienced at fiberglass work shoot me an email please. Once I get the fiberglass method down I'll produce Carbon Fiber parts.

Well right now I'm working on a smooth, paintable wiper cowl instead of the un-attractive slotted stock one. And I have about 15 other custom ideas which will be posted over time. I'm also working on a solid one peice dual guage A pillars which should boast well with the up and coming fiberglass interiors. My ideas are endless........

When I catch up with the real world and get a digital camera I'll post some pictures and maybe offer them to the public.

Kind of difficult to get right, but if you did it'd be AWESOME. How about a FG dash?
With a perfect mold and whatnot I am sure someone could very easily copy that into CF as well which would just be...ungodly . |

The problem with making one that is bolt in instead of a one-off made-in-the-car one is the attachment points to make is stay put and not rattle. people don't like things that rattle.

True, but I think if made well, and withthe use of rubber grommets, there would be little to no rattle.

I can do something along those lines, but all of the mounting points would be visible. Maybe some black allen-head bolts would look good? The main problem is making the original. After that is done, it's not nearly as difficult.

I just came through this section to check out how to custom make fg parts and stuff. What I am interested in would be a frunk tub that would clean that area up and make it look nice. BTW the original OEM plastic frunk organizer thing is gone in my deuce!
But best of luck on the wiper cowl!!! |

Ya, thats a good idea Brian. Yeah a frunk tub would be awesome. There are a lot of options to go with there also, like a place for an amp maybe. I moved to Illinois to go to college so I havent had time to make anymore parts as of late. I tried the wiper cowl and the hard part for me is getting the edges perfectly smooth. I think I might use a router; and a jig to guide the router around the edges so every one I make is the same and perfect. And the fiberglass dash is something I'd have to tackle when I have tons of time and experience. Thats a pretty big task. I guess I gotta get on the ball again because I have lots of ideas.

FG dash would be sweet but i think a CF dash would be absolutely bomb! and as for the frunk, i think that piece would be awesome, only problem on my car is that i actually pack the frunk full of stuff
i took the raggety old plastic out 10 minutes after having the car! and thrw it away, but i think it would be awesome for shows and such! |

How do they make fiberglass parts in bulk?
I seem to remember they make the first one, then cast a mold from it, and then use some kind of spray on/spray in fiberglass to spray into the negative mold.... I know they dont make them the way i make fiberglass parts (cut cut, brush brush, that **** would take forever) |

Maybe somebody can tell me if they think this is a good idea? I was thinking I might saran wrap the crap out of the frunk area. Next use a paster paris to make a mold of the frunk area. Then use that as the mold to create a custom fiberglass frunk tub. Do you think this might work???? I have no idea on how to do it otherwise. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!!!!!!

A lot of people make the main mold out of Urethane. The following FG molds that come off of it are easier to seperate. This lets you make quick copies and also the main mold is pretty durable. Oh and with it you can use what ever fiber types you want, CF/FG/KV. I worked with that stuff for a few years.

Cool! I've never thought about using urethane. I'm going to try that.
