1st: Make sure your GPU's cooling system is up to the job. Make sure you have e decent sized fan for the main heatsink, and if your VRAM doesn't have heatsinks go on eBay and buy some for cheap and then apply thermal paste to them and attach them to your VRAM chips.
2nd: Depending on your card (nVidia or ATI) download a program for overclocking that chipset or card. Just do some research and google a few things and you'll find one. 3rd: Adjust the VRAM and the GPU clock speed SEPERATLY and bump them up 10mhz at a time until you see artifacts (research if you don't know what these are) and make sure to run load tests every time you bump it up. Then once you see artifacts lower it by 1mhz until they go away. Keep the speed there and repeat with the VRAM or the GPU depending on what you did first. 4th: After that's done run a game and make sure there are no artifacts appearing in the game. Also, if you have temp sensors on your video card, make sure they don't overheat. If you don't have one you might want to invest in one for the GPU when you go to get the VRAM heatsinks. Good luck. I had an old Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB that had a craptastic cooling system and my overclocking definitly killed the **** out of it. I can't even run Windows XP for 15 minutes without it overheating and crashing now. So be careful, and keep it adequetly cooled. And as with overclocking anything, if you can't afford to fix it when/if it breaks... don't do it. |

My cpu came with a cool little overclocking tool.
But it will only overclock to 120%...then the computer shuts down. |
