Windows is not activated

Reformated my computer over the night, got some weird virus pirating a virus protection program... ironic right.. anyway I registered / activated my xp with the key that I had. Did all mobo drivers, graphix drivers then downloaded all of the windows automatic updates (service packs and junk).

Comes up with some BS message some like "your computers settings has changed alot and need to re enter your validation code." So I do that and it doesnt work and they want me to buy a new windows code... I even try going to a link that they send me to if "this is my varification code but its not working" but that site is non-existant.

Any ideas on this why this happens? I figured i would call them tomarrow but just pondering ideas untill then.

if wondering / needed

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz
EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3

WHELP if worse comes to worse i mine as well buy a new mobo overclock my prossesor and SLI my graphic card.

i would call the Number that they post up on that message. I remember some sort of message like that came up when i was fixing my friend's computer. Swapped a hard drive from a Dell to a Custom build computer. She didn't want to reformat the hard drive. So i just plugged it in, and a "Enter your serial Key" came up. Took the key from the Dell. entered it and it gave me something about an error and told me to call this number. After i called the number everything is running =P some 1 888 number i think.... was a machine. told it my key and it gave me a new car to type in.
