Pretty sure my hard drive is about to go
I need some advise on how to get my information from the old hard drive to the new one, partition, system recovery and all.
Im going to Fry's today they have an ultra DMA 320 gig for 54.99 hopefully from what ive read it should be compatible ![]() Either way how would I partition the new hard drive and copy everything over just as it is on my current drive? Thanks |

Create a disk image of the old hard drive and restore it to the new one. Hopefully all the information will be transfered.... You are talking about hoping that the hidden partition (data recovery) goes with it with your new hard drive right?
Yeah, try ghost/power quest and create a disc image. Save it to your thumb drive, DVD or whatever. |

Ghost 8 works wonders, even for most failing hard drives- but good luck finding it these days.
I've got an acronis diskwizard iso hanging around I've been meaning to try out, though. There are probably dozens of linux livecd variants floating around... |

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but putting your hard drive in the freezer for about 30 minutes right before it dies will allow you some extra time to grab important information off of it.
