just got a 2nd hand laptop w/ Vista SP1, did a fresh install from recovery partition. anyone else have Chinese appear in the Language Bar straight from vista sp1?

Windows 7 isnt technically out yet.
I would say who ever bought the laptop did so from china, or was Chinese/ the disks are chinese.

How is it second hand and bought from Best Buy? Do they have some kind of program that takes sells used laptops? If so, then it means something isn't right.

As it is, something doesn't sound right.

[Edit] Vista has been proven to be screwy with hardware. Vista SP1 in some cases makes it worse. Windows 7 is superior, skeptics (myself) and fanboys agree. Lose Vista if possible. RC1 is insanely stable for an OS, despite how it is in development and release, in such a short period. Give it a look and see if it fixes the error. You should notice your boot up and response times decrease as well.

It is also best to do a fresh install on the computer when you first get it because there are no files to backup or worry about just wipe and start again.

It was probably open box/return. Unless you paid sub 400 range I'd return it and go built myself a budget desktop or go for a refurb on tigerdirect.com They have some good stuff.

no, it was craigslist... the guy got it from best buy, got a mac as a present and sold the laptop. which was stupid cause macs are gay.

anyway, what is a good hard disc image software? I hear that Acronis is the best, but its $50

What do you need hard drive image software for? For backing up your data? It's called mybook.
